đ€© Here's how to Stop Procrastinating with One Simple Trick!
Apr 15, 2023 4:06 pm
Hey there, friends (and procrastinators đ).
Are you sick of feeling stressed and overwhelmed by your long list of things to do?
Do you wish there was a way to start getting things done instead of always procrastinating?
The good news is that there's a simple solution to help you break out of that procrastination cycle.
Itâs called the â5-minute rule.â
Whether it's shooting a video, doing an assignment, or writing a proposal, this rule can help you overcome procrastination and start working.
This is how it works.
1. Set a time limit of only five minutes to do a task you have been procrastinating.
Why 5 minutes? Because everyone has five minutes.
2. Do that task for only five minutes.
Yes, just five minutes. It doesnât seem so hard, does it?
3. If, after 5 minutes of doing the task, you want to stop, you can.
Thatâs it. You can stop!
But what usually happens is that most people find that after five minutes of doing something, itâs easy to continue until the entire task is done.
See, the reason a lot of us procrastinate is because starting something is the hardest part.
But the five-minute rule helps you get over procrastination because it gives you the momentum you need to finish the whole task.
So, don't wait any longer. Take that first step today and watch your list of things to do shrink right before your eyes!
Happy productivity!
đ Shortform Summary: Grit
I recently read the one-page summary of Grit by Angela Duckworth on Shortform.
In it, she shows parents, teachers, students, and business people old and new that the key to success is not talent but grit, which is focused persistence.
Hereâs part of the Shortform introduction, after which they give a chapter-by-chapter summary:
âDuckworth argues that talent and intelligence matter less to success than grit, which she defines as a combination of perseverance and passion that drives a person to consistently pursue goals over many years.
Duckworth is primarily interested in how to raise gritty kids, and her insights have inspired parents and educators around the globe since the book's publication in 2016. However, she believes that adults, too, can develop grit, and she lays out specific, measurable ways to do so.
Her work has sparked heated debates about which matters more to success, innate talent or deliberate effort, and whether or not grit is instinctive or can be developed and taught.
Throughout our guide, we'll address these controversies, and we'll refer to other psychologists who shed additional insight on Duckworth's ideas.â
Shortform is a great place to go if you want to quickly get the gist of a book or try out a book before you commit to reading it cover to cover.
