Hey, . So I want to ask you…

Have you ever found yourself saying "yes" to people on autopilot because you wanted to please someone or avoid appearing rude?

As if every time someone asks you for your time, you feel like you’re supposed to say yes?

Well, I’ve got some news for you: Saying "yes" all the time doesn't make your life any better.

It only makes you feel burned out and makes your life more difficult.

Billionaire Warren Buffett once shared a priceless piece of advice, which was:

"The difference between successful people and really successful people is that really successful people say no to almost everything."

In order to be more productive, you need to get good at saying "no."

Sure, saying no can be hard for many reasons. But here’s the thing: each time you say "yes" to something unimportant, you're saying "no" to everything else that matters to you.

It doesn't seem worth it, does it?

Remember, helping someone isn't an obligation, even if it's family.

Learning how to say "no" helps you focus on what matters rather than the things that don’t.

Here are some phrases you can use instead of directly saying "no," which may make you feel awkward:

  1. “Let me check my calendar and get back to you.”
  2. “I can’t do it, but _ might be interested” (Fill the _ with someone else capable)
  3. “I understand what you are saying, but I can’t get on board because I have another commitment”
  4. “I am actually busy with something else.”

etc.

Your time is a precious asset; don't waste it on things that are not important.

So if you want to create more time for the things that matter to you, master the Ultimate Productivity Hack: Saying No!

Show Your Work

I have recommended Show Your Work by Austin Kleon before, but I need to do it again because it was so good.

I read when I was trying to figure out how to build a following online, and it really helped me understand how to go about it.

It was such a fun book because it was short and had a lot of funny pictures that helped show what the author was trying to say.

I will recommend this book to anyone who wants to build a following and tap into their creativity.

Here are four important takeaways from the book.

  • Embrace the process of making things.

The book talks about how important it is to pay attention to how things are made, not just what they turn out to be. It tells people to have fun making things and not worry about making them perfect.

  • Share your work.

The book also talks about why it's important to share your work, even if it's not finished. Posting your work online can help you connect with other people, get feedback, and build a following.

  • Be discoverable.

The book says that using social media and other online tools can make it easier for people to find your work. It talks about how important it is to build a personal brand and be consistent online.

  • Keep learning and experimenting.

The book talks about how important it is to keep learning and trying out new ideas and ways of doing things. It encourages people to try new things and take chances, even if they don't always work out.

🎧 The podcast episode recommendation of the week.

Modern Wisdom: #541 - Ryan Holiday - Stoicism's Lessons For A Disciplined Life.

Summary:

Ryan Holiday is another one of my favorite authors.

He has written books about stoicism and personal growth.

I’ve read and really enjoyed his books, like "The Obstacle Is the Way," "Ego Is the Enemy," and "Stillness Is the Key."

I love how he pulls out lessons from the lives of the Stoics and other historical figures.

His books are just amazing.

Here’s what you’ll learn in this episode:

  • why your sanity is your most valuable asset,
  • why self-discipline is useless unless it's tied to some sort of goal,
  • how to maintain your discipline even after you've achieved your goals,
  • and much more.
