Hey ,

One of the most underrated skills that so many people lack and that could have one of the biggest impacts on a person’s life is self-awareness.

It is one of the most important traits you can develop over the course of your life.

Every aspect of your life gets better because of it. It can lead to greater personal growth, improved relationships, enhanced decision-making abilities and so much more.

By taking the time to reflect on your actions and motivations, you can gain valuable insights into yourself and make positive changes that can truly transform your life.

Self-awareness is a powerful tool for personal growth that can lead to a more fulfilling and authentic life.

And today, we will talk about how to develop it.

1. Write. 🖋️

I always thought I knew a lot about myself, but writing my thoughts in a journal showed me that I didn't.

Every morning, before I dive into the day, I reflect on the previous day.

Honestly speaking, writing out my thoughts kind of felt like I was getting to know myself for the first time.

There is no one way to do this, but what I do is ask myself important questions that fit with who and where I want to be, and then I answer them each day.

For example, “what are four things you are grateful for?”, “what are areas you can improve on?”, “who do I need to reach out to today?” etc.

2. Seek feedback from loved ones 🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒

Find a friend or family member you trust and ask them for their honest opinion about you.

Tell them you are trying to improve your self-awareness and would like honest answers to your questions.

Then go on and ask them questions you need answers to.

For example, “What are my weaknesses?” “What do I need to improve on?” or “What can I be doing better?”

The key to making this discussion fruitful is to keep an open mind and not be reactive or defensive about what they say.

Oftentimes, the more defensive you are about what they say, the more right they are.

So listen carefully, and take in as much of what they are saying as you can.

3. Be more mindful. 🧘‍♂️

Being mindful just means paying attention to what is going on in your mind, body, and surroundings.

By practicing mindfulness, you can cultivate a deeper awareness of your thoughts and emotions without judgement.

It allows you to stay present in the moment, appreciating the beauty of life unfolding around you.

Mindfulness is not about controlling your thoughts and emotions but rather observing and understanding them with curiosity and compassion.

✍️ A QUOTE TO REFLECT ON:

“You can read as many books as you like, but if you’re unable to read yourself, you’ll never learn anything.” - Steven Bartlett

To truly learn and grow, one must delve deep within, reflect on their thoughts and actions, and be open to change and improvement.

By cultivating self-awareness, we can unlock our full potential and embark on a journey of continuous learning and self-discovery.

So, let's not only read books but also take the time to read ourselves - our emotions, motivations, strengths, and weaknesses - for that is where true wisdom and growth lie.

🤔 A QUESTION WORTH CONSIDERING:

On a scale of 1–10, with 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest, how self-aware are you?
