Hey, contact.first_name (and fellow bookworms!)

Reading has been a vital asset in my life. Saying that it changed my life and played a huge role in making me the man I am today is actually an understatement. Seriously! 🤯

I can’t emphasize how much of a game-changer it’s been since I picked it up and decided to commit to it.

But, like almost every habit, it was challenging to stick to at first. I didn’t have a structure to follow to help me remain consistent. Thankfully, though, I’ve found strategies to help me make it a habit and have been able to 10x my growth by sticking with it.

So, if you feel like you struggle to read regularly but would like to read more, I've got the perfect recipe for you! With these tips, you'll not only be able to read more books, but you'll also enjoy them more. Here you go:

  1. Know your "why." 🤔

Before you start a new reading habit, think about why it's so important. Your answer will help you keep going when things are hard.

Without that clarity as to why reading is so important, you won’t make it a habit. Wondering why I think reading is so important? because it’ll change your life (i.e., as long as you read the right books).

Knowing why you want to read more will encourage you to keep going, even when you don't feel like it.

2. A date with the books: Schedule your reading time. ⏱️

In order to transform reading into a habit, set aside a special time each day for it. You know, if you don’t schedule something, it probably won’t get done.

Just like you would make a reservation for where you plan to eat, make a reservation for when you want to read!

3. Savory snacking: Read during your free time. 🚎

When you're waiting for your dentist appointment or on the bus, take advantage. These are good times to read a few pages.

Keep a book on hand, so you're ready for impromptu reading sessions.

4. You don’t have to finish a bad dish; you can stop reading a book. 🙅‍♂️

If you don't like it after 100 pages, quit. You don't have to read to the end.

You're free to move on to something else.

Reading is necessary to succeed. Finishing reading a bad book is not.

5. Bite-sized book bites: Try book summaries.

If you read a summary of a book before diving in, you'll never have to suffer through a bad book again.

And what better way to do so than with your secret ingredient, ShortForm?

Never Finished by David Goggins

I recently finished listening to the audiobook Never Finished by David Goggins. The book really delivered some great wisdom that will help you conquer your inner demons and unlock your full potential.

If you take the time to study or listen to this and internalize its lessons, you will be well on your way to gaining the determination and grit you need to tackle any challenge you face.

Here are six ideas from the book that I found fascinating:

1. Give up only when it's easy.

Goggins emphasizes that the best time to quit is when it's convenient and comfortable.

When you're in the thick of a challenge, resist the urge to throw in the towel. Instead, push through the discomfort and prove to yourself that you're stronger than your circumstances.

2. Dreams die while you're suffering.

Suffering is an inevitable part of chasing your dreams. But it's during these trying times that you forge the inner strength needed to achieve greatness.

Embrace the struggle, and remember that every hardship brings you one step closer to realizing your dreams.

3. Respect is earned every day.

Goggins believes that respect is not a one-time accomplishment; it's something you must earn daily through your actions and choices.

Show up, stay disciplined, and consistently strive for excellence to earn the respect of others and, most importantly, yourself.

4. You're either getting better or worse.

There's no such thing as stagnation in Goggins' world. Every day, you're either making progress or regressing.

Assess your actions and choices regularly to ensure you're continually moving forward and evolving.

5. Every minute you spend pitying yourself is wasted time.

Self-pity is a destructive force that only holds you back. Instead of wallowing in your misfortunes, channel that energy into finding solutions and taking action.

Remember, you are the architect of your destiny, and every moment you spend feeling sorry for yourself is a moment wasted.

6. No one cares what you did in the past; it's what you do today that matters:

Your past achievements may be impressive, but they don't define your present or future. Goggins encourages you to focus on what you can do today to create a better tomorrow.

Continuously challenge yourself, set new goals, and strive for personal growth.
