Does this fish look familiar to you?

If you grew up watching Cartoon Network in the late 90s or early 2000s, you’ll probably recognize it. It’s the Pokémon Magikarp.

The Pokédex, a digital Pokémon encyclopaedia, calls it "weak, pathetic, and useless".

That is, until it reaches level 20.

What happens at level 20? 

It turns into a Pokémon Gyarados... changing into a 6.5-meter-tall beast and turning into a powerful sea serpent that can level whole cities.

So how does this apply to you? Well, the transformation from Magikarp into Gyarados holds three parallels to life.

Today, I’m going to break down those parallels for you.

Now stay with me while I explain how these ideas can help you grow as a person.

1. Embrace adversity

The Magikarp does not get to level 20 very easily. 

It has to lose many battles and suffer many setbacks before it can evolve. 

In life, the bigger the dream, the more obstacles you face. 

There will be times when you feel overwhelmed, lose motivation, and consider giving up. 

But like Magikarp, you need to embrace these challenges. 

Each setback is a stepping stone, a necessary part of your journey.

The key is to keep pushing forward, learning from each failure, and growing stronger with each obstacle overcome.

2. Trust yourself

Magikarp evolves from experience points (EXP), not age. 

In the real world, it’s your experiences, not time, that shape your personality and maturity. 

Whatever uncomfortable tasks you may be avoiding right now, they won't get easier with time. 

Remember, it’s normal to feel a bit of fear in the beginning, but you will only get past it by working through it, not away from it. 

Every challenge is an opportunity for you to gain more experience points. 

By consistently facing your fears and tackling challenges head-on, you build confidence and resilience, which are crucial for your personal evolution.

3. Welcome change

As Gyarados has shown us, a once feeble Magikarp can become a symbol of power and strength. 

There will always be a bit of fear when it comes to the unknown. 

Change can be intimidating, but it’s often the gateway to your most significant achievements. 

Embracing change means opening yourself up to new possibilities and opportunities.

It’s about understanding that growth often requires stepping out of your comfort zone. 

The transformation might not be immediate, but each small change brings you closer to your full potential. 

Embrace the unknown, adapt to new circumstances, and watch yourself grow into a powerful force, just like Gyarados.

Follow these three steps, and you’ll reach level 20!
