No Typewriters / No Talking May session + an update ✍️ 🎹 🔜

May 08, 2023 4:56 am

Wominjeka ,

Twenty-three absolutely amazing writers showed up to put pen to paper / fingers to keyboard and get some writing done at the second No Typewriters / No Talking in April and another handful came to our pop-up event at the Bendigo Writers Festival on the weekend.

It was awesome to see so many fantastic humans across two sessions silently scribble away.

The focused time allowed attendees to write an average of around 800 words and one participant wrote a couple of songs. How cool is that?

It was so much fun we are running a third session and RSVPs are open now.

When: 7:30pm – 8:30pm Wednesday 24 May

Where: Tempo Rubato, 34 Breese St, Brunswick, 3056

Before you smash this button 👇 to RSVP, you might want to read the information below.

I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU'VE WRITTEN BELOW, I REALLY WANT TO COME SO I'M GOING TO RSVP RIGHT NOW BY PRESSING THIS REALLY BIG BUTTON.

Ch-ch-changes

Look, we know it’s against rule two, but we need to talk.

No Typewriters / No Talking is taking a big step: we’re going to start charging for tickets.

Over the past two sessions, we’ve shown providing a physical space creates mental space for you to do thing you want to do (but find many reasons not to), write.

Writers have written an average of slightly more than 1000 words each session. That’s across a range of styles — from screenplays to lyrics, erotica to journaling.

Charging also means we can contribute back to Tempo Rubato — the beautiful space we call home.

The piece of feedback the No Typewriters / No Talking Team has heard the most is you would like to stay at Tempo for a drink. Charging for tickets allows that to happen. We’ll be able to open the bar a bit earlier and then you can stick around after (if you want to, no pressure).

Fig 1. Snaps from our first session way back in March. We're growing a cool little community of writers, we hope you'll stick around.

For the first two sessions we asked for Koha/contributions to help cover costs, and you absolutely lovely humans gave us an average of $9 each. So tickets will cost $9 (plus Eventbrite fees), which we think is very reasonable*.

The contributions so far have helped pay for the signs you see when you walk in the door, printing, and admin costs — also some new tables the team scored which you’ll get a chance to test out at the next session. It also means we can start exploring hosting sessions at new and exciting venues, so we have more sessions like the one we ran over the weekend at the Bendigo Writers Festival.

We’re building a cool little community and we’d love to grow it even more.Your continued support will allow that to happen. We're also learning as we go and the feedback you have provided has been overwhelmingly positive so far, we hope you take this step with us.

The No Typewriters / No Talking Team will answer any questions you have, flick us a message on Insta, email, or lurk around Breese Street and accost us.

Okay. Now you can smash this gosh darn button and snaffle a spot 👇

THIS IS THE SAME BUTTON AS ABOVE BUT EVEN BIGGER BECAUSE I REALLY WANT TO COME SO I'M GOING TO RSVP RIGHT NOW BY PRESSING THIS BIG BUTTON.

Look forward to seeing you (again) at the next No Typewriters / No Talking 7:30PM, Wednesday 24 May at Tempo Rubato.
