The Soft White Underbelly Memoir
Sep 20, 2026 3:45 pm
Hi friend,
When I flew to Santa Monica for my Soft White Underbelly interview, I wasn't planning on sharing about my latest relapse with compulsive sex. But when the camera and the questions started rolling, I felt the need to be brutally honest with anyone watching.
Because I know how damaging shame is. And I wanted people to know that no matter what you've done that you feel shame about, you are not alone, and you can heal.
At the time, I was sitting on a new memoir that I was terrified to publish. There's a chapter in it that covers my last relapse (Aug - Nov 2023) and goes into even more detail than I did during the interview.
I was scared to publish because, in a way, I still didn't want to admit I had relapsed. I didn't want it to be true. Especially after having written books about my addiction and how I "overcame it."
Looking back, that interview was the final step I needed to take before I could be ready to hit publish.
All the comments, DM's, and emails I received from you and others on the internet about your own struggles, your own fears, and your own secrets reminded me why I do what I do. Why I expose my biggest setbacks in the way I do.
It's not about me. It's about that man or woman sitting at home, alone, lost in compulsion, afraid of stepping into the light.
If you enjoyed my interview, or read one of my books, I'm so, so proud and grateful that I'm still alive to tell you I have just published a brand new memoir.
It's titled, When Cancer Calls: A Son's Journey Through His Father's Illness, and it's out now on Amazon.
And for the first week only, I've priced it at $0.99 for those who might be in a tight financial spot.
You can grab a copy by clicking here.
Thank you for being a part of my journey.
Nicholas
P.S. I read all of my own emails. If any of what I send ever speaks to you, feel free to drop me a line.
