Emily Voss has been on my mind quite a lot recently.

That's to be expected since I've been editing the first eight (out of nine) sections of the book intensively over the last few weeks.

What book is that? Who are you again? Those are legitimate questions given the long hiatus in both this mailing list and my writing, but sometimes life gets in the way, and you have to deal with what's in front of you. That's what happened to me.

You could probably use a reminder about what this newsletter is all about, so here goes: I'm an author of urban fantasy, high fantasy and science fiction. Until almost two years ago I was promoting my current project, Past Mistakes, and then things happened. In dealing with those things, no time was left for writing, or reading, or newsletters, or websites, you get the picture. I started writing again a few month ago and I am therefore blowing gently on the embers of this project to bring it back to life.

If you're reading this, then you were subscribed to the newsletter back then, and I'm reaching out now in the hope that interest is still there.

About the novel: Past Mistakes is the story of Emily, a New York-based exorcist with a questionable work ethic, who finds herself drawn into events that are beyond her ability to handle, and which relate to her personally in ways she gradually discovers over time.

The first three chapters were marketed as a novella in 2021-2022 and garnered a solid 4.6/5 rating on their own on Goodreads.

Even though I only have about 8000 words to go, given the time it will then take to get a final copy of the novel edited and launched, it's a few months away from being available on Amazon. Now, however, I have a clear view of the finish line. I expect to be looking for beta readers / volunteer reviewers for the near-final version in a couple of months. If that might be you, then please stay connected.

What does this relaunch look like?

Apart from all the writing I've done to get Past Mistakes to near-complete, three more things have happened.

First, I have a completely new author website. It's been comprehensively redesigned and rewritten, and placed at a new (and more relevant) web address, and I'd love for you to take a look. The website also contains my short stories (quite a few of them), all free.

Second, I've created / obtained / sourced concept art for the universe of Past Mistakes. Some of this concept art is on the website on the relevant pages. I'll also reveal it in the newsletter over time also. I hope you'll enjoy it. The picture of Emily staring at the city skyline above is a first example, and not too far from how I picture her myself.

Finally, I'm resurrecting this mailing list, but with a slightly lower frequency. I used to write every week, now it will be twice a month. That means I can concentrate on the book and have better content in the newsletters. I will still have occasional links to previews and copies of other novels, but I want to keep them as relevant as possible to you.
