Hello from London,

I hope you and your loved ones are well.

Lots to get to this week, with the monthly publication of a new episode of World of Skills (you can get the first instalment free here), a whole load of free and promoted books at the bottom of this message, and most importantly of all, an opportunity to become an early reader for Emily Voss episodes 1, 2 and 3.

Advanced Copy Readers Wanted

I'm building a review team. Would you like to join?

What's a review team? It's a group of people who are interested in reading the kind of stories that I write, who are willing to receive copies of my work, before it's published, for free.

Why do I give my work away to this group for free? Because I'm hoping that they'll take the time to review my work on the plaforms where it sells. Without reviews, a book has little-to-no chance of ever being promoted by the platforms. A reasonable number of reviews in the first few days a book is on sale is critical if the book is to have any chance of success.

How do I apply to join? You click here and submit a request. There's also a button below, if you're the kind of person who perfers buttons. I don't discriminate.

How many people can join? A limited number, so please don't take it badly if you're not selected. The process will be semi-random, and I can't give an infinite number of my books away for free because that would defeat the purpose. My pre-reader group is a small and limited circle who get my books just before they're published.

Do I have to review the book if I get a free copy? I would very much like you to, but I can't require you to as that would be unethical, and also go against the rules of the online platforms themselves. So I can only ask: Please review it, it would be very helpful to me, especially if you liked it!

What am I promoting?

The Emily Voss box set containing books 1, 2 and 3 of the series. You can read book 1 for free (and probably already have). If you haven't then click this link and download it now.

World of Skills Episode 3: One's A Crowd

The World of Skills series of short stories continues at a rate of one per month on my Patreon, and the latest episode was made available to subscribers there today.

I'm very grateful to my Patreon supporters, past, present and future, as they not only provide a small amount of recurring cash that goes towards the costs of covers, proofreaders, editors, but their vote of confidence that what I'm writing is worth paying for is a key component in my determination to keep writing. Thank you.

FANTASY / ROMANCE GIVEAWAY

Don't get the wrong idea - my books are science fiction and fantasy, but not romance. Nevertheless, this collection of books will provide you will all the fantasy romance my writing doesn't provide, if that's your kind of thing.

HOLIDAY BOOK SALE

A repeat of last week's promotion, because it's really very good. A sale of complete stories from every genre. The books should all be 99 cents or less to purchase, so you should be able to stock up on good literature at bargain prices.

My book in this particular bundle is "Eternal Child", a reimagining of the story of the Jinn. I've discounted it to 99c until the end of this promotion, which will be December 23rd. Enough time to grab some stories for reading by the fireplace.

FREE BOOKS FROM SELECTED AUTHORS

Here's a list of free books you might want to consider as an introduction to a new author or series.

imageProphecy by Amanda Lynn Petrin, the first book in a paranormal young adult trilogy, regarding gifted people and a heroine with a mysterious family history.

imageForget Me Not by Anca Antoci. A discovery of vampires in a rainforest opens Rae's eyes to a hidden world, but survival in the near term means allowing her savior to erase her memory.

imageKlassified by Cynthia Vespia. A compendium of stories taken from the Silke's Strike Force universe, a mash-up of military adventure and superhero sci-fi. This volume contains background information on the stories themselves, including character sheets, a book synopsis, some cover designs, and an excerpt from Karma.

imageThe Axe by Vaughn Ashby. Three individual's fates are tied together across time, joined by a mysterious object (The Axe), and by a common enemy (an infection).

These four books are all available for free. The writers give them away in return for your giving their writing a chance, so if anything looks tempting to you, then please click through and test out their work.

Below are some additional, published books, that you can find on Amazon. They're also in genres directly or tangentially related to my own work, so please check them out to see if they're something you'd be interested in.

imageJack Hansard, Season One by Georgina Jeffrey. Disclaimer first: I haven't read this book. That said, I've read the synopsis and I really like the premise, in large part because I've toyed with this idea myself, albeit with a much darker tone, in my short story Rare Gifts. Jack Hansard is an occult black market trader who can sell you odd, esoteric items. When he's asked to find a client's missing relation, he finds the fairly risky job he's been doing all these years has suddenly become much more dangerous. This volume contains fifteen episodes and is available on Kindle.

imageQueen of Clockwork by J.A. Armitage. A story based loosely on Alice in Wonderland. Elements of that world are repurposed to create context for a mystery and a watchmaker trying to solve it.

I know that's a lot of books to consider, and you don't have to read all, or even any of them, but if you like to consider new things, then please click through to read the synopses - give the reviews (if there are any) a look to see if you like what you're reading, and consider giving these authors a chance!

Thank you for reading. I look forward to sending out a few ARCs to those of you interested enough to join my pre-reader group.

All the best for Friday and the weekend!

Nick
