Do You Audiobook? // Some Free Reading // An Update on the Writing
Nov 20, 2020 2:47 am
Hello from London,
We're in the weird half-life of the autumn-winter transition here in London. Like a strange planet where the seasons have yielded to entropy, it's neither Autumn nor Winter. Rather, the weather is a sad blend of light drizzle and a mild coldness that nevertheless creeps through the clothes and under the skin like a well-cast spell.
It's the time of year when I'd be craving a trip to the south of Europe, where it may not be summer, but the winters are mild and the coldest days are blessed with a clarity that casts the world in crystal light. In London, all you get is the concrete of the building opposite. The urban, without the fantasy.
In books, however, we can travel to new worlds...
Do You Audiobook?
A quick survey, and your contribution to this is very much appreciated:
If there were audiobooks of my work, would you download them?
You can click YES/NO below. That will record your answer and punt you over to a page on my website. Once there, I'd be very happy if you'd provide a little more detail, either in the comments or by replying to this mail. In particular: does a narrator with a particularly British accent put you off? (or do I have to pay someone else to do it?).
Thank you for your input!
Writing Progress
A quick summary of the various projects:
EMILY VOSS is currently having her covers made. It's not rapid but it's definitely progressing. The first three stories are written, the fourth is awaiting editing. I'm still on track for a launch the first three near the end of this year. Perhaps a New Years gift...
WORLD OF SKILLS is published monthly on my Patreon. The episode three will be published early December. I am a little ahead of the publishing schedule on this series and so am actually ahead of schedule on the writing.
SHORT STORIES
I have a short story currently awaiting a response from a science fiction magazine and I'm hoping for a response in the coming days. Statistically speaking I have zero chance of being accepted for publication, but like a lottery ticket I'm enjoying imagining the possibility that my story might be selected in the time it takes to discover that it hasn't. If it is not accepted, I will either try to sell it to another outlet, publish it on my Patreon, or give it away for free. It's too short to sell.
MY NOVEL
Yes, there is a novel in the works. Unfortunately, with the demands of real life, plus the projects above, I've only a very limited time to work on it. That said, it is approximately half finished and there is light at the end of the tunnel. It's a near-future time-travel science fiction adventure.
Author Spotlight
Let's talk about some other people who are putting their writing into the world. I have a grand total of four different authors and books to present to you today.
The Secret of Excalibur by Sahara Foley
Billed as 'snarky urban fantasy/sci-fi adventure with some smoldering romance', this story is the first in a series, and is free to download.
As visions compel him on a journey involving the legendary Excalibur and The Lady of the Lake, Arthur finds himself in England. The irresistible call brings him to the famous London Institute of Psychic Research, where he meets Ruth.
The feisty, red-headed doctor wants nothing to do with the arrogant American, but her boss and the Commander of MI-6 have other plans. Believing the beautiful scientist is the key to controlling and weaponizing Arthur’s abilities, they force the pair to work together.
Ruth has no choice but to tag along, finding it increasingly difficult to fight her growing attraction for Arthur. However, when a camping trip along Lake George suddenly turns into a military expedition, the doctor realizes the precarious predicament she’s in. And her unwanted partner isn’t the only source of concern.
There are more secrets hidden beneath the dark waters than anyone imagined. And, strangely, unknown forces are causing Arthur’s senses to go wonky. He’s losing control.
Will he be able to recover his powers and prevent WWIII? His next move may determine the fate of the world.
Breach by Candace Nola
A parallel-world contemporary fantasy, billed as an 'epic tale of terror and survival'. This story is free to download.
Lost in a world no longer her own.
Laraya Jamison is a young woman on a camping trip with close friends before the start of college classes. When they are savagely attacked by a creature that defies description, she flees into the woods, unknowingly crossing through a breach between realities.
Lost in a dark world full of creatures, hostile plant life and a banshee intent on hunting her, she must learn to confront her fears and figure out how to survive on her own. She must figure out where she is and how she got there in order to get home, but her very survival depends on fighting monsters and demons that seem to have been ripped directly from her nightmares.
With only a curious group of insects to aid her, she battles her way through this new world, but will she survive long enough to discover the truth behind her new reality?
A Veil for the Vanguard by Danny F. Santos
An epic fantasy, and the first in a series, this novel is available to buy on Kindle.
Kera is a lowly librarian’s aide who is forced to undertake a perilous journey she's untrained for…
…but unknown to her, larger forces at work in the shadows. She'll soon learn her deadly quest will lead to far greater dangers than she ever realized.
Why her? Kera has the least magic power at the Citadel, and they choose her to head into enemy territory? Crazy!
To find the most powerful magical artifact ever known? Certifiably insane!
Not to mention the thing has been lost for over a century. On top of that, she must team up with celebrated relic hunter, Jorthen. Intimidating? Just a little.
But Kera has no choice. The High Council has spoken. So she boards an airship with a motley crew who have secrets of their own—and little hope of success. What they discover is far beyond an artifact as they unravel the dark secrets leading to a deadly global war.
Hunted by a secret organization, only Kera knows of the looming threat. Can she escape her pursuers and warn her people before thousands are killed?
New Dominion by C.G. Harris
The second story in a series, this novel is urban and contemporary fantasy, and is available to buy on Amazon.
Bad choices bred his dark afterlife. Secretly righting wrong might secure his redemption… or his ultimate doom.
Underworld double agent Gabe Gantry can’t stop screwing up. But trying to commit covert good deeds from inside Hell is a devilishly tricky balancing act. Especially when his latest agency gig sends him Topside for something suspiciously non-Satanic.
Being a double agent in the Underworld is never simple, but a gig that doesn’t involve preventing the next apocalypse would be a breath of fresh air. But Gabe knows better. There has to be a catch.
If this unlikely hero can’t figure it out before disaster strikes, facing the wrath of Hell will be the least of his worries…
And that's all I have the strength for at the moment. Here ends week two of the pandemic's second lockdown.
Thank you for reading.
