End of the Interlude // Newsletter Changes // Free Books
Mar 07, 2021 7:13 pm
Hello from London,
I started writing this newsletter during the COVID-19 pandemic. Stuck at home, I had the opportunity to focus on my readers and my writing in a way that I hadn't before.
The pandemic, and it's associated lifestyle changes, is gradually coming to an end. This is most obvious in the workload from my "real" job. I need that "real" job, because my writing 'career', if I can call it that, is way too young to pay any bills at all.
Setbacks like this are often opportunities. This is no exception. I've been thinking about how best to use my time now that I have less of it, and a refocus is in order.
I need to spend more time writing and less time on the other activities that surround the writing, like marketing. This newsletter is essential if I want people to know what I'm doing. It's also the best way to build a personal relationship with people who like the kind of thing I'm writing. I enjoy the contact it gives me with the more interactive among you more than anything - as I've said before, the messages I exchange with my readers are the most fun part of the writing journey.
But I don't need to be filling your inboxes with a message every single week. Marketing isn't writing, and writing is where my head and my effort needs to be if I'm to finish any of my ongoing projects (Emily Voss, World of Skills, Erasure, etc) now my time is a scarce resource again.
So you're going to receive less emails from me. From next week I'm dropping the frequency of this newsletter to every two weeks. I may drop it further later.
Please feel free to reach out (hit 'reply') and let me know what you think. Personally I think most of you will be happy with the change, I was probably sending more emails than you needed, but maybe some of you feel differently. Feedback is good, and I enjoy hearing from you. Don't hesitate.
Author Spotlight
The Equalizer by Sam Seador
The war might be over, but for Derran, one of the Imperial's most celebrated soldier, no retirement is in the cards. He watched as droids had cut his platoon down, then battled through robospiders and humanoids to bring the enemy down.
Now he is offered a job to train the next generation of special imperial units, dragging him into a dangerous game where enemies are hidden and can be lurking in the friendliest of face. His life is on the line again. And that might be all right, as long as that does not come at the cost of endangering those closest to him.
That's it for this week. Feel free to react to anything I've written (hit reply). The best part of writing is interacting with you guys.
Free Book Giveaways
I have two book giveaways for you this week.
The March Urban Fantasy Mysteries giveaway contains 10 novels that combine these two genres. If this is your niche, then you should find something here.
This is a much broader genre, and so a much longer list of titles - a total of 38 when I last checked. Something to suit most tastes.
Next week's newsletter will be the last weekly newsletter before I switch to a fortnightly schedule. Don't forget to reach out with any comments or feedback.
Thanks for reading!
Nick.
