Mexico City subway overpass collapses overnight
May 04, 2021 8:01 pm
By now, you've probably heard about the Mexico City subway overpass that collapsed last night, killing 23 and injuring dozens more.
Back in 2017, Mexico City suffered a massive earthquake that damaged the overpass. Nobody bothered to fix it. Lawyers are writing briefs and concocting billboard ads as you read this.
In other news, Verizon sold AOL (who?) and Yahoo. (Remember when they were Google before Google was Google?)
Not any more...they've been sold more often than a used 1978 Camaro.
And for less money.

Reaching ‘Herd Immunity’ Is Unlikely in the U.S., Experts Now Believe
Widely circulating coronavirus variants and persistent hesitancy about vaccines will keep the goal out of reach. The virus is here to stay, but vaccinating the most vulnerable may be enough to restore normalcy.
Now, more than half of adults in the United States have been inoculated with at least one dose of a vaccine. But daily vaccination rates are slipping, and there is widespread consensus among scientists and public health experts that the herd immunity threshold is not attainable — at least not in the foreseeable future, and perhaps not ever.
Instead, they are coming to the conclusion that rather than making a long-promised exit, the virus will most likely become a manageable threat that will continue to circulate in the United States for years to come, still causing hospitalizations and deaths but in much smaller numbers.
