World Builders' Guild and PlayArchitect Games Join Forces!

World Builders,

What is the most important thing you can do as a creator?

Think about it. We'll get back to that question in a second.

In the meantime, I'm happy to announce that the World Builders' Guild Newsletter is joining forces with my game publishing company, PlayArchitect Games. Fictional worlds influence the real world. Games change lives. The mission of PlayArchitect Games goes beyond just making fun things. I want to make fun things that make you better.

Read the PlayArchitect Games mission statement for yourself.

What's New

  • The schedule won't be weekly. It will coincide with PlayArchitect Games blog posts (aka "Rules as Intended") and other publishing events and announcements. Or, whenever I come across something awesome I can't keep to myself one second longer.
  • The content will be focused on the art and science of games and competition. World building is included in that, but expect a broad focus on games as they relate to human development. (Spoiler: "edutainment" is not a thing.)
  • I'll share outside content with you that will make you think harder about your position on play in general and some forms of games and competition, specifically.

I have concerns: I see people who want to get better in aspects of their life be it fitness, skill building, longevity, relationships, or just plain kicking ass at their favorite hobbies. I see people who use games as an escape and get stuck in neutral. I see people who don't even know where to start. I see people who think games are a total waste of time and will "rot your brain."

I also see people who are dedicated nerds in their domains (I mean that, as a nerd myself, as the highest compliment) who inspire and teach us how to get to the next level.

You and I are alike in this respect. We're creator nerds. We love building things. We love challenging ourselves. We love challenging others. The act of play is the most powerful way to exercise our potential.

As creators, we have to share the worlds we've built.

That's the most important thing.

To future worlds,

Matt Ventre
