World Builders' Guild Newsletter

Dear World Builders,

As 2020 draws to a close, I'd like to remind you that there's no magical significance to starting something you love on January 1st.

The worlds of your dreams come together brick by brick, day by day. Start now and create a system of massive world creation that will take your readers', players', and visitors' minds by storm.

I leave you with an introduction to a system I've been using for a number of years now. It's part of why I'm lucky and honored to have you all join along in this newsletter. Thank you for reading and responding. It means the world to me.

I realize it's difficult to reframe a cozy year-end trope like I'm suggesting, but give it a try and let me know how you did. And, I know you can do it.

Progress lies beyond the comfort zone.

Goals are for losers.

Systems are for winners. This is a common challenge.

You set a goal and every moment you haven’t reached your goal you feel like a loser. When you achieve your goal, you have nowhere to go.

Loser again.

I like to reframe how I look at goals. Goals are like an end zone in football:

You cross the line, score, and then go back to the other side of the field and start all over. It’s a repetitive struggle. Most of the time you feel bad.

You have a better chance of feeling like a winner by using waypoints.

You can get to a waypoint by taking any path you want. You can pass a waypoint at any speed. Your momentum at the waypoint carries you forward on the journey to success.

You can even change direction at a waypoint. You can adjust course for a different, new, or challenging waypoint.

The best part about waypoints is you never have to go back and start over again.

You’re always moving forward.

What's your first waypoint?

Start moving.

I wish you luck, light, and success in 2021.

To future worlds,

Matt Ventre
