5 Steps That Can Make You A Leader, Too

Jul 03, 2024 11:56 am

You are waiting to be called, right?

To be called upon to lead the Ummah…

By a committee or members of a mosque. And you take that as humility.

The truth: anyone with leadership skills doesn’t need approval to lead.

Every Da'i who has the skills to solve a problem faced by their community and stands up to do it is a leader, even if he/she is not elected, selected, appointed, or nominated.

There's no humility in waiting to be called upon when people are suffering—physically, mentally, morally, or even psychologically, while you have the ability to solve their problems.

If you have the ability to solve a problem in your community and you don't step in, you are not a leader. Skills don't make you a leader. Taking responsibility does.

Leaders solve problems even if they don't have the required skills.

This is how they do it:

The 5 Core Roles of a Muslim Leader

1. Task Definition

You make clear what is expected of the Ummah—the vision and mission of the Ummah for a particular group/community.

You identify priorities and create a system that supports and sustains those priorities.

You define the milestones from start to completion of your vision, the day you’ll say a big THANK YOU to Allah and your team.

2. Achieving the Defined Tasks

The defined tasks are the reason why your team exists.

As a leader, you ensure the Ummah’s purpose is fulfilled by creating the required system and strategies for its accomplishment.

3. Getting a Team Together for the Mission

This requires the ability to identify and attract talents and bring them into your zone.

You define the pillars of your mission and strategically delegate the realization of the mission to the talents in your team with your support.

4. Maintaining Effective Relationships

You work to ensure there's always a good relationship between you and your community and among members of the community itself.

5. Rinsing and Repeating Resiliently

You are in it for the long game.

Once you solve a problem for the Ummah, you move on to the next one. You don’t depend on others to solve your problems for you.

You create your own wealth because you are a dawahpreneur to tackle the challenges of the Ummah in your own community.

Most people subconsciously believe that they have to be appointed or selected to become leaders. The truth is that anyone who has leadership skills doesn’t need approval to lead.

You only have to use your skills, and people will naturally follow if they see value in the direction you are leading them.

And the above 5 steps can help you become a leader without having any title.
