How Selling a Business is Like Selling a House

While few and far between, there are some similarities between selling a house and selling a business. Just as the condition of a home drives the price, so too does the condition of a business. When a seller goes to market, they may choose to simply sell it “as-is,” with no improvements. In that case, they expect a lower price than if they choose to invest in improvements. Those improvements can be minor—things like paint and flowers—or they can be more substantial, such as staging the house with new furniture or remodeling so it becomes a different property altogether.

Using a Murphy broker to help "stage" your business for sale can be crucial to realizing the maximum value for your company. Substantial improvements like these dramatically increase the selling price of a business.
