Life Notes Newsletter: Focusing on internal rewards
Sep 06, 2021 1:01 am
Hey,
Welcome to the Life Notes Newsletter - a newsletter filled with actionable notes on life.
Here's...
Something to think about in your week:
- What internal reward do you get from the positive habit/s that you're building?
A quote to support your thinking:
- “Any attempts to trick ourselves into work with external rewards (like doing something nice after finishing a chapter) are only short-term solutions with no prospect of establishing a positive feedback loop. These are very fragile motivational constructions. Only if the work itself becomes rewarding can the dynamic of motivation and reward become self-sustainable and propel the whole process forward (DePasque and Tricomi, 2015).” - How to Take Smart Notes, Sönke Ahrens
Action steps to consider:
- Self reflect on how the habits that you're building make you * feel * while you carry them out or after carrying them out ~ this is often the internal reward
- If the way you're performing a habit doesn't feel internally rewarding, experiment and try a new approach or angle on that habit until you're able to find a satisfying, rewardable experience.
Appreciate you,
Michelle
