Life Notes: What boundaries do you need to set to create healthier relationships?

May 31, 2021 1:01 am

Hey,

Welcome to the Life Notes Newsletter - a newsletter filled with actionable notes on life.

Here's...

Something to think about in your week:

  • What boundaries do you need to set to create healthier relationships?

A quote to support your thinking:

“Boundary-setting is a form of personal responsibility. It replaces dead-end thoughts of "they shouldn't have said that" or "it's not fair that they did that" (which are often true, but lead nowhere) with self-advocacy. We have control over whether we let others know that their behaviours are unacceptable. We have control over what treatment we accept from others. We have control over how much time we spend with people who treat us poorly.*" - Hailey Magee

*Please note that power disparities and abusive circumstances can affect and limit individuals’ ability to set boundaries. In such circumstances, it may not be safe to self-advocate.⠀

Action steps to consider:

  • Meditate on what makes you feel resentful
  • Write a list of boundaries you could set around those areas
  • Start checking off each boundary as you begin to communicate them in your relationships

Appreciate you,

Michelle
