The Quiet Joy of Simply Being: Experiencing Hakomi
We often chase happiness in grand achievements, milestones, or the next big thing. But what if happiness isn’t something we achieve—but something we notice?
Recently, I gave myself space to pause. I stepped into a 4-day Hakomi Therapy session, expecting nothing but walking away deeply nourished. It wasn’t about fixing or changing—it was about holding space for myself with kindness. And in one unexpected moment, I found joy in its purest form.
I laughed. A simple, childlike laugh. No reason. No expectation. Just lightness. And I realized—maybe happiness isn’t something we strive for. Maybe it’s something we allow.
WHY Do We Tend To Forget The Simple Joy
We spend so much time doing, achieving, and planning for ‘what’s next’ that we forget to simply be. When we don’t pause, we miss the quiet moments where joy naturally arises.
✅ We get caught up in productivity but forget presence.
✅ We chase happiness externally but rarely look inward.
✅ We judge our emotions instead of holding them with kindness.
But what if we could change that?
WHAT Can We Do to Cultivate Happiness
1️⃣ Give Yourself Permission to Pause – Make space to reconnect, reflect, and check in with yourself without rushing to “fix” anything.
2️⃣ Notice Joy in Small Moments – A spontaneous laugh, a deep breath, or a quiet moment of self-acceptance—these are happiness in its simplest form.
3️⃣ Hold Your Emotions Gently – Instead of suppressing or analyzing every feeling, what if we simply allowed them to exist, just as they are?
HOW Can You Start This Practice
1️⃣ Set Aside “Being” Time – Even five minutes a day to pause, breathe, or reflect can shift your perspective.
2️⃣ Stay Curious – Approach emotions and experiences with curiosity rather than judgment.
3️⃣ Ask Yourself: “Who Am I?” – In Hakomi, this question is at the heart of self-discovery. The answer? It unfolds in the moments you allow yourself to fully be.
Let’s remember:
Happiness isn’t always a destination. Sometimes, it’s hidden in the quiet spaces we give ourselves to breathe, feel, and exist—just as we are. ✨
