When Keeping the Peace Costs You Your Voice
Most leaders want a harmonious team.
But I’ve come to realise that a team without visible conflict isn’t necessarily a team at peace. Sometimes, the silence, the one-line emails and the growing distance between colleagues are signs of conversations that have been left unspoken.
I know this because I’ve been there myself. As a Libra rising in astrology and a high S in DISC, harmony has always been my natural ground. For years, I avoided conflict, compromised to keep others comfortable, and sometimes lost a little of myself along the way.
It took me time to understand that conflict isn’t always something to fix or avoid. Sometimes, it’s an invitation to grow, to understand others better, recognise our own patterns, and find the courage to stand by what matters.
WHY Do We Need to Stop Avoiding Conflict
🕊️ Because keeping the peace doesn’t always mean the relationship is healthy. We may smile, stay polite and avoid difficult conversations, but unresolved tension doesn’t simply disappear. It can show up as silence, distance or conversations that become increasingly transactional. A harmonious team isn’t one without disagreement; it’s one where people can speak honestly without losing their connection.
