A NOTE FROM AMY
🚼📊 TLDR: My secret to delivering successful presentations? Luck shoes and self-trust.
I recently shared a video on my social channels as a reminder:
You don't need a brand new computer.
A fancy mic.
A huge audience.
An optimized funnel.
A vocal coach.
A wardrobe consult.
My Mac is a 2018. The laptop is 2013.
My USB mic is $70 CAD.
My audience varies by channel, I'm not in the double digits thousands (yet).
My funnel doesn't exist, my websites are DIY WordPress and SquareSpace versions I've rarely updated since our third kid arrived in 2022 (it's on the list ok?)
My voice gets worked out daily, it's a practice to not yell, sing instructions, drink enough lemon decaf herbal tea and do my vagus nerve stimulating exercises (supports brain injury recovery).
My sister agreed, the thrifted gold shoes go with my energy. And since 2019, I've worn them on IRL stages, for school pickups, at the pottery wheel (they've been cleaned don't worry) and lately for some extra cushion support when I need it for my chronic pain (life has been lifeing since 2023).
👀 I've been speaking on stages IRL, virtually and even on TV/radio since 2009 for other brands, businesses, organizations, fundraisers and audiences, then my own since 2018.
🔮 And of all of the secrets I could give you, it's this:
I trust my voice, my intuition, my lived experiences, my abilities and I believe you should (and can learn how to) as well.
✨️ Even when the brain fog hits, my body signals it needs a break, a kid doesn't sleep through the night or as it happened last month, the neighbourhood power goes out in a thunderstorm the day before a speaking gig...I trust myself to go with the flow, respond in the moment and figure out a way forward.
🎤 How about you? Where's your level of self-trust at?
[REPLAY] Show Up (With Your Kids) In Corporate Settings
✅ Thinking about doing more public speaking?
✅ Navigating corporate settings as a parent?
✅ Doing client meetings but have kids at home?
Last week I hosted a webinar all about my approach to mixing babies and business, which has created results like:
🎙Client work, job opportunities, speaking gigs, advisory services, podcast interviews, sponsorship agreements...
🚼 all while pregnant, postpartum, breastfeeding, primary caregiving and now doing school runs as a parent of three kids.
The webinar replay and mini guide PDF are live until this Thursday, May 22nd.
No traditional business advice here! Although I do have plenty of corporate experience across different industries, this session is completely designed from a child-friendly perspective for parents.
✨ For parents doing everyday hard things...
...trying to get everyone dropped off, with sunscreen + supplies intact
...working in small windows of time, on limited sleep
...attempting to go beyond your comfort zone
...without completely burning out in the process
...or forgetting to talk to other (adult) humans
I've relaunched the Mixing Babies And Business™ Community in 2025 for a flat fee of $25 CAD for the year.
A safe virtual space
Designed to support you with working on your growth edges and embracing all parts of your identity, without needing to explain your parenting, career, family or lifestyle choices.
Where you can also focus on...
...building self-trust
...strengthening your intuition
...dialling in on your body's needs
...remembering who you are AND
...showing up in your power.
Tune into monthly strategies, tools, rituals and connection opportunities to help you navigate the future of work, while raising the next generation.
You're welcome to join us any time this year! https://mixingbabiesandbusiness.com/community/
Have a great week + stay scrappy 🐢

P.S. Keep showing up (as and when you can). It all matters. You can catch my latest carpark livestream videos covering pitching and presenting with kids tips via Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn or YouTube.
P.P.S. Want a look behind-the-scenes (BTS)? Here's a new website page I created to share some of the digital tools, resources, books, podcasts and programs which have helped me grow alongside my business over the years.
PARENT-FRIENDLY BUSINESS NEWS / OPPORTUNITIES / EVENTS
⬇️ Not sponsored links ⬇️ simply spreading the word + business goodness for parents like you. I hope it helps! Please forward to your connections if you think they'd be interested. If I've missed any important updates, please hit 'reply' and send them my way.
POLICY: There will be a Dad Strike in the UK on Wednesday, June 11th, thanks to Elliott Rae, parent, founder of Parenting Out Loud and co-host of the To Be A Boy Podcast, for sharing the details via this LinkedIn post, about the upcoming protest against the current two weeks of paternity leave (at only £187.18 a week)...the least generous in Europe. They're campaigning for at least six weeks of paid paternity leave and advocating for workplace cultures which support caregiving responsibilities.
POLICY: An important update from Jonathan Haidt, author of The Anxious Generation, via this LinkedIn post about how phone-free schools report a decrease in conflict and increased socialization, referring to the digital umbilical cord (parents needing to be constantly connected to their child). There's an upcoming phone free schools proposal in New York state to foster distraction-free learning. We live in Ontario, Canada which has banned phones in schools but hasn't clarified whose responsibility it is to enforce (parents, teachers, school officials, someone else?) It's a step in the right direction and a start. As a parent, what are your thoughts on this?
POLICY: As Korrine Sky has posed the question via her LinkedIn post, "What kind of justice lets a woman die, but refuses to let her go?" Current law in the state of Georgia prohibits ending life support once a fetal heartbeat is detected and such is the case with Adriana Smith, a parent and nurse, who is pregnant and has been declared brain dead as of February 2025. She is currently being kept alive through medically assisted care, against her family's wishes, under state law. Black women are over 3x more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes in the US, and 3.7 times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes in the UK.
STARTUP: The European Innovation Council (EIC) and European Patent Office are hosting FREE online training sessions on Intellectual Property for deep tech businesses, including when to file a patent, IP rights and attracting investment or partnerships on Wednesdays, June 11th and 18th.
STARTUP: The reality people don't always talk about...when the thing you've been building comes to an end. A very brave post via LinkedIn from Charlie Rosier, a parent and founder of Babbu, which she announced this week is closing down. Her list of wins, milestones and social impact that's been created from her venture over the past decade is staggering and a reminder to us all: You can create massive change AND the outcome can also be different than you imagined.
STARTUP: What could your work, your team, your company, your life look like if flexible work was the norm? This post via LinkedIn from Elizabeth Willetts, parent and founder of Investing in Women, about how her entire team works part-time, is the kind of future of work I love to see in real time (and 7K – and counting – other people agree!)
STARTUP: Massive congratulations to Jessica Rhodes, parent and founder of Interview Connections, who shared via this LinkedIn post, she's 12 years into her business and celebrating $13M in lifetime sales! A great reality check: You don't need the best hardware, software or systems...sometimes you need to simply start, solve a problem as best you can, improve as you go and repeat.
STARTUP: Serena Williams, parent, athlete and founder, is going to be executive producing a new docuseries highlighting multi-hyphenate female CEOs as they move through personal and professional challenges and successes, according to this article by The Wrap.
CAREER: The team at Boundless Life (run by parents, with multiple locations), are growing and seeking their next General Manager in Japan as they open their next location in Kamakura details via this LinkedIn post. Sounds like an amazing opportunity for someone dreaming up their next adventure and wanting to be a part of building something unique!
FUNDING: Early stage entrepreneurs based in Toronto can apply NOW to pitch at the Startup Canada Equal Slice Pitch Competition on Tuesday, June 10th at Google Canada, for a chance to share your vision, get expert feedback, and compete for one of five $10,000 cash grants. This is more than a pitch competition, it’s a platform for new founders to shine. They're even offering a FREE From Pitch to Profit: Insider Secrets to Securing Investment webinar for Startup Women on Wednesday, May 21st and a FREE Empower Your Pitch webinar on Thursday, May 22nd to support you with developing your pitch in advance of the competition.
CAREER: Access FREE tech track trainings from the WIT Network, in partnership with New Horizons, on Accelerate AI: Microsoft Copilot Leadership Experience, where you can earn an official Microsoft badge of completion and access exclusive Microsoft Learn content on Tuesday, May 27th, Monday, June 9th or Friday, June 20th.
CAREER: Haven't tried this AI prompt series but it's an interesting one – programming a GPT to respond as a future version of yourself and asking it for non-fiction book recommendations via Courtney Chaal on IG.
CAREER: Feel the fear and do it anyway! Easy for some, not for others as adults. But what about as kids? Love this post via LinkedIn from Rachel Carrell, parent and CEO of Koru Kids, about how parents can help kids try new things, build resilience and unlock their potential.
CAREER: I stand firmly in the space of conviction: Bringing my ideas to life AND being in my own corner. Because oftentimes people won't believe in you straight away...you need to show them why, demonstrate it consistently and be patient as their awareness, understanding and trust builds over time. Thanks to Daniella Bell, parent, brand storyteller and writer for sharing an uplifting carousel via this LinkedIn post, reminding us of the importance of embracing the cringe, getting comfortable hanging out in the void (and magical) space of delusion and riding the wave of our own conviction!
CAREER: Love this reminder about developing self-trust over seeking external validation from Gesche Haas, parent and founder of Dreamers & Doers, via this LinkedIn post. Who are you being when no one is clapping for you? That's where the real belief, embodiment and sustainable action begins from...begin tapping into and developing it today, I promise you won't regret it.
WELLNESS: I've spent the past few weeks between parenting and work, reading library books, buying fresh flowers, catching up with loved ones and new friends, trying to practice good sleep hygiene and many other things to help rewire the brain (thanks for the reminders Aneta @integrated_wellbeing_ on IG). Every bit helps, which are you embracing lately?
WELLNESS: "Take a break before you break." A welcome message and reminder from Joeli Brierly, parent, founder and former CEO of Pregnant Then Screwed, co-host of the To Be A Boy Podcast, wrote via a LinkedIn post about her experience with chronic stress, a recent diagnosis and the toll activism and work has taken on her body, health and life. A must read for anyone working in the social impact, charitable and advocacy spaces, while also parenting.
WELLNESS: ConnectHer has outlined via this LinkedIn post five rising startup stars changing the game with their innovations and businesses, as part of Mental Health Awareness Month, including Kim Palmer of Clementine, Dr. Emily Anhalt & Alexa Meyer of Coa, Colette Ellis of Libbie Health Inc., April Koh of Spring Health and Sonia Kaurah of Tala Thrive.
As always, thank you for reading, supporting this work and advocating for the needs of parents in business settings!
