"Tracing The River Back," our inaugural group exhibition of 2025, opens today at 7:00 pm. This exhibition delves into the concept of "Home," suggesting that it's not necessarily a static location but rather a dynamic and fluid entity, much like a river connecting our past and present, the near and the distant. "Tracing the River Back" explores the journeys we undertake to reconnect with our origins and the ever-changing significance of belonging.
Artist: Ejiro Fenegal. Adaobi. Bonded Marble. 2025.
Our search for the origins that define us is like water's timeless journey, shaping the land. We follow the threads of memory, migration, and identity, some paths leading us back to familiar places, while others reveal new aspects of ourselves. Along this journey, we gather fragments: stories carried by the wind, landscapes etched in our memories, and the inherent understanding within us.
Artist: Izere Antoine. Crimson Skies. Oil on canvas. 2025
This exhibition encourages us to explore the historical currents that flow within us, to heed the stories held by the land that remembers our presence, and perhaps, to discover a different understanding of what "home" can be.
Artist: Matthew Eguavoen. A Gift from God. 2024.
Tracing the River Back features new paintings and sculpture from Izere Antoine, Matthew Eguavoen, Dusabe King Christian, Ejiro Fenegal, Odeyemi Oluwaseun, Manzi Leon, Benjamin Niyomugabo, Alex Peter Idoko, and Chika Idu.
