Mitochondria Gallery is pleased to announce “Horizon of Quiet Echoes,” a solo exhibition by Ugandan visual artist Kansiime Brian Lister. Expanding upon the conceptual foundation of his Timeless Echoes series, this new body of work moves beyond interior figuration into expansive outdoor and landscape settings, where memory is carried not only by the human figure but by the land itself.
Dawn in the Courtyard. 48 x 38 inches. 2025
While the artist’s earlier paintings mainly centered on intimate portrayals of women in carefully constructed spaces, he now extends this narrative into open fields, distant skies, and earthen pathways. The figure, when it appears, is no longer contained by architectural boundaries but exists in dialogue with atmosphere and terrain.
Deep Descent. 40 x 30 in. 2026.
With Horizon of Quiet Echoes, the artist builds on his commitment to reimagining representation by positioning Black presence within vast natural settings that evoke sentiments of belonging, and renewal. The exhibition honours inherited memory while opening toward possibility, proposing the horizon as a site where past and future meet in sustained, resonant stillness.
