Artist Statement: “As a black artist working in abstraction within the contemporary age, I have set out to continue ensuring the accessibility of art for marginalized and neglected groups within and outside of art. This action is also applicable to non-black and brown communities. I paint to extend accessible avenues for those who care to expand their visual maps and comprehension on various matters that I find too compelling to ignore.
Demetrius Wilson. Flash. 40 x 30 in . Oil on Canvas. 2023
In my oil paintings, I am reforming, and revising combinations of words, pictures, past and present paintings, images, and moments all in hopes of constructing something that is dressed in ambiguity while screaming its essence and everything that has aided its form. Viewing the world through a fragmented lens, in large part due to my turbulent upbringing where I moved around extensively, is prevalent in my work. Never resting for too long, always on the move, active.”
