Mitochondria Gallery is pleased to announce our participation in the 13th edition of EXPO CHICAGO, taking place from April 9-12, 2026 at Navy Pier's Festival Hall in Chicago, Illinois.
Chika Idu. Shadows in the deep. Oil on Canvas. 2026.
In Booth 234, we present a duo exhibition featuring Chika Idu and Ejiro Fenegal. This presentation features a selection of medium to large scale oil paintings by Chika Idu, where the artist engages in a sustained examination of bodies of water as a unifying force. Through a measured approach to composition, surface texture, and color, Idu situates water as a space that exceeds fixed boundaries and invites reflection on shared histories and collective experience. In this context, bodies of water emerge as sites of convergence that complicate distinctions between separation and continuity, while also evoking broader concerns related to environmentalism and a better tomorrow.
Ejiro Fenegal. Holding Strong II. Bonded Marble. 2026.
Ejiro Fenegal presents a series of marble sculptures rendered as life size busts and torsos, extending her ongoing engagement with the preservation of women’s histories within her community and in broader contexts. Through the material and formal qualities of marble and her application of vibrant patina, the works evoke poise, resilience, and permanence. They underscore the significance of recording and sustaining narratives that are often marginalized or overlooked.
