Can you fix your hair? Then you can break out of a grab. Self-defense Tip 25
Mar 03, 2023 9:11 pm
Hi friends,
We've been fighting the consequences of ice storms here in the U.S. Midwest. Who knew the beautiful scenery of glistening ice on everything could cause so much damage?
Unfortunately the ice is so heavy that trees and branches everywhere crashed down, taking out tons of power lines. Thousands of people haven't had power over the last week with the temps dropping into the low 20s F.
Luckily our power came back quickly, but we still went without internet for most of a week. It was a good wake-up call for how dependent we are on it. Sheesh! LOL.
Now it's back, just in time for me to write to you!
Are you up for another self-defense tip? Something you already know how to do and works in a second or two?
Read below for all the details.
And here's my book of the week: Deadly Lockdown, the story of two sisters fighting to survive a world gone crazy with a virulent virus on the loose. Sound familiar? :)
Question for readers: Who do you think wrote Kate, the older sister and medical resident? And who wrote Alisa, the younger sister trapped back home in the midst of even more danger? Me or Steph?
Deadly Lockdown by Misty and Steph
I'm curious to hear your guess! :D

Self-Defense Tip #25: Breaking a Grab
The Attack: Someone grabs your right wrist.
The Defense: Pull your trapped hand up quickly, following the motion you would use to run your fingers through the hair above your ear.
Tips to make it work:
- Make sure you keep your right elbow close to your side, moving your forearm more than your upper arm.
- Move quickly. Speed helps break the grip.
- Pull straight up, not back toward yourself.
The reason this works is that you are pulling up against the attacker's single thumb, instead of directly away from or against the four finger side of their grip, where it is stronger.
Try it out and then practice!
This is a great one to grab a friend to learn with, especially with kids and girls. Training an instinctive skill to quickly break a grab can make a huge difference during an attack.
Let me know if you have questions, so I can help.
Stay safe out there and enjoy a wonderful story this week!
