Oma life and offline maps - Prepared Tip 26

May 16, 2025 9:16 pm

Hi friends,

I hope you're all doing well! Things are busy but good here. The twins just turned six months old and are growing like absolute weeds.

They love being outside (just like their Oma!), though they're still a little suspicious of prickly grass on bare feet and hands. But every time they spot me, their whole faces light up with the biggest smiles. It's pure magic.

In book news, I started editing book 5 today and only made it through five chapters, which means I have about 90 to go. Sheesh! Hopefully, I'll speed up as I go.

If you haven’t started the series yet, now’s a great time to catch up with four doorstopper-sized books already out and Imperial Chaos #5 coming Oct. 3rd in both ebook, paperback and audio.

Prepper Tip of the Week: Got Maps?

If you lose cell service or power during an emergency, will your GPS and maps still work?

Will you know all the side streets to bypass roads that are out of commission or blocked because of an emergency?

In most cases, no.

So, here's a trick that helps in emergencies (or whenever you lose data and map access out in the boonies)

Steps:

  • Open Google Maps on your phone.
  • Tap your profile icon > Offline maps > Select your own map.
  • Save the areas you care about: home, work, evacuation routes, or even that hiking trail.

It takes a minute or two, costs nothing, and works even if your phone has zero signal. Combine that with a battery backup, and you’re good to navigate even when the world goes dark.

An extra step: Take screenshots of map routes as another backup. You really don't want to be lost during an emergency or power outage.

Stay safe out there! All the best,

- Misty :)
