The Ear Clap - Simple and Effective
So, if you can clap your hands, you can use this surprisingly effective self-defense technique.
Here’s how it works:
This is for a situation very close to an attacker. For example, if someone has grabbed you from the front or picked you up.
Step 1: With your hands cupped and muscles relaxed, you clap both hands as fast and hard as you can over both of the attacker's ears.
The sudden pressure on the ears can disrupt balance and cause a brief, loud ringing in their head. It’s unexpected, quick, and doesn’t require much strength to be effective.
Just remember: Be prepared to use the attacker's disorientation to break free and escape before they recover.
Practice is important, but only do it on something safe like a firm pillow or couch cushion. Have a friend hold it up to the height of an attacker's head. You can even just visualize the dangerous situation and practice in the air.
Familiarity with the motion builds confidence if you ever need it.
And that's it!
Another simple, effective self-defense technique you already knew how to do.
Stay safe, stay prepared—and enjoy the holiday season!
