Misty's Writing Update: My mom made it through brain surgery!
Feb 17, 2023 9:11 pm
Hi friends,
Thanks for the well wishes for my mom!
With a dangerous surgery near the critical brain stem area, we are extremely blessed that she survived and appreciated all the experts that made it possible.
She's now two weeks out and on the rehab floor relearned basic life skills like walking without falling down and self-care. I keep realizing how much I take for granted. She still has right-sided facial paralysis with some mental confusion, but we're praying she continues to improve.
I just got home last weekend and after a few days of catching my breath, I'm getting back into the flow of writing. I also just started something really fun with my writing on Monday. Scroll down for my writing update.
But first, if you have an extra $0.99, each of our Aftermath boxsets are still on a great deal:

Steph and I had a blast writing the stories of Rita and April. They are flawed but strong women who fight to survive old enemies and deadly storms battering the country. The characters and dangerous tension make it a fun page-turner to stay up late reading!

If you have a heart condition or lack humor, you should not read Zombie Turkeys, no matter how much you want to find out what happens.

Writing Update:
- Very little progress on my to-do list . . . no cover yet for book 2 and I still haven't done any research into hiring an audiobook narrator. (I'm a procrastiner at heart)
- I'm currently writing chapter 63 in Emerging Rebel, the second book in the Shieldwall Academy series. Currently you can read the entire first book and 16 chapters of book 2 on Royal Road. (please leave a nice rating or review, if you do).
And what's the fun, recent addition to my writing routine?
A few hard-working authors I've met online, and some in person, started holding online Zoom sprinting sessions every day. I've been joining in the morning.
What does it look like for authors to write together on Zoom?
- We all join a zoom meeting room and chat for 5 minutes.
- Someone calls the start time and everyone mutes their mics and writes as fast as possible for the next 25 mins.
- Time is called. We share how we did and chat for another five minutes.
- Repeat as often as you'd like.
It's funny, but there is just enough social interaction to make the writing process a little less lonely. It's really great to be around other writers working hard, even if we're all together in a silent Zoom meeting for the bulk of the time.
I'm totally loving it! Go figure. LOL.
I hope you can also find just the right amount of supportive social interaction to pick up your mood this week. :)
All the best!
— Misty :)
