Table salt, water and a plastic bottle beats a virus? Health Tip #4

Hi friends,
Quite a few years ago, I ran across a simple, but slightly unpleasant technique to decrease the length of a cold, allergy symptoms and other sinus troubles.
With that intro, I'm sure you're very interested to hear what it is. lol.
But, wait, hear me out. It's relatively easy, extremely cheap and has far fewer risks than the simplest medication.
I'm talking about nasal rinsing.
If you spent some time goofing off in the ocean, you might have inadvertently done this to yourself by getting tumbled through a few waves.
But, now it's an often recommended alternative to help with nasal and sinus issues. In fact, after sinus surgery, nasal rinsing can speed recovery significantly. Also, one meta-analysis showed a 35% improvement in nasal allergy symptoms in patients who rinsed.
There has even been some theorizing whether it can help with covid to speed recovery and minimize transmission.
The risks? Mostly, you run the risk of introducing harmful contaminants or bacteria into your sinuses, so it's recommended you use water that has been well filtered or boiled for a couple of minutes and cooled. Also, make sure to keep your rinsing bottle or neti pot disinfected.
How does it work?
- Get a nasal rinsing bottle (I use a Neilmed one) or neti pot. ($10 - $15)
- Mix up 3 teaspoons of non-iodized salt and 1 teaspoon of baking soda. Use one teaspoon of this mixture per 8 oz of boiled/filtered water.
- Warm the water to body temperature.
- Lean over a sink and slowly put water in one nostril, letting it flow out the other. If it ends up in the back of your throat, lean over further.
- Switch sides until the liquid is used up.
- Gently blow out the remaining water. (DON'T blow hard, as this can push water back into your sinuses.)
- Repeat daily once or twice until symptoms resolve.
Useful for:
- Colds and nasal viral infections.
- Nasal allergy symptoms
- Sinus infections.
- Exposure to airborne contaminants and pollution.
- Healing after sinus surgery.
Have any of you used nasal rinsing with good success? Or tried and it didn't work? I'd love to hear.
Stay well out there! <3

Misty's Writing Update:
I hit 90k words in my litrpg magic academy book this week, which is often a full length book, depending on the genre.
Many romance categories are 45k - 65k long while epic fantasy tends to be 110k - 120k.
Brandon Sanderson, who is a favorite around my house, writes doorstoppers that are 400k and more. Crazy!
I'm curious about you? What length of books do you enjoy the most?
- Short stories - I want to read the whole thing in one go.
- Novellas (up to 40k or so) - Not quite as long as a novel, but just enough to satisfy.
- Shortish novels (40k - 75k): Get into the story and wrap it up nicely before I get tired of it, please.
- Average+ (80k - 100k): I like something that takes a few days and I can keep coming back to enjoy it.
- More, more, & more book! Give me really long or multiple books in the series. When I find something I like, I never want it to end!
Thank in advance to whoever answers me. I'm just curious. :)
And thanks again for all your support, especially everyone who takes the time to leave a rating or a review for one of my books. Those make such a huge difference!
Happy reading this week!
