A 2-minute busy brain shutdown and new grandbaby on the way

Mar 20, 2026 9:21 pm

Hi friends,

Life has been full lately in the best way.

I’ve been spending a lot of time in grandbaby mode, helping out with two different families. And we have a fifth grandbaby arriving in April, which I’m really looking forward to. Grandmas get the best part of parenting!

On the writing side, I’ve been working on something new that I’m excited to share with you soon.

I’m about halfway through writing a prequel to Shieldwall Academy (Book 6 out in May), following the story of Titus, Pax's brother, after he's conscripted. My plan is to give it away for free to drum up interest in the series and my newsletter.

As soon as it’s ready, I’ll send out a link so everyone here can grab a copy.

And for our tip today: if your brain has been a little busy with looping thoughts that won't leave you alone, I have a very simple tip that might help.

Just click and check out a few of these books first:

Mental Health Tip 19: The 2-Minute Containment Trick

Have you ever had looping thoughts that just won't stop? They're especially annoying at night when they won't let you get to sleep, or just before an important event when you're trying to calm down and feel confident.

It's a pattern where your brain keeps bringing up those "unfinished" thoughts, ideas and worries.

Here’s a simple trick to interrupt that cycle.

1. Set a timer for 2 minutes.

2. Write down everything that’s on your mind as fast as you can

  • worries
  • reminders
  • things you need to do
  • things you’re replaying
  • pretty much everything that's bothering you at all

3. Get it all out on the paper. Don’t organize it. Don’t fix it. Just write.

4. When the timer goes off, stop writing and put the list away.

This can drop the mental noise almost immediately. It’s also simple, fast, and you can do it anywhere.

Reasons why this helps:

  • You don't have to solve the problem right then.
  • You’re giving your brain permission to let it go, since it's now recorded for later.

If you give it a try, let me know how it works.

Thanks for supporting my writing!! I appreciate you more than you know.
