The reality of a new puppy . . .

So, we got a new puppy, now that we're down to only a teenage boy and my 8-year-old daughter at home.

She's the lone extrovert in a family happy to sit in our safe spaces and be introverts.

So, after years of begging, we finally got her a puppy 'sibling' to help with companionship and her anxiety.

Day 1: "I can't believe I finally have a puppy! After ALL these years, it's finally happening. I want to pinch myself, because it feels like a dream."

Day 2: In an embarrassed, distressed whisper, "I don't think I want a dog."

LOL. No amount of forewarning can prepare a kid for the reality of a new puppy.

Much like the reality of being an indie author. Somedays I feel just like my daughter and the amount of stuff on the to-do list is overwhelming.

Other days, a reader writes a nice review or sends me a note telling me how much they enjoyed my story and that connections makes my day.

So, what am I up to now?

I'm in the final stages of writing the third book in the Shieldwall Academy book - just about ten chapters left.

Then I'll take a month to edit Emerging Rebel, book 2, so I can deliver it to JS Arquin, my narrator, to get to work on it. That should all be back and done around the end of the year.

If you're around in January and want an early review copy, make sure to message me so I can add you to the list. Basically, you read it early, post a review and then mention the book on your social media channels to help get the word out.

Then, I'll start mapping out book 4 so I can keep up with my hard deadline of writing three chapters every week for my online audiences.

The puppy, and helping my daughter learn, provide a nice mix of enjoyable and sometimes frustrating breaks in the writing process and managing the author business stuff.
