Surprising Self-Defense Tip to Take Control Fast

Sep 06, 2024 11:54 pm

Hi friends,

I can't believe September is here, but I feel like that a lot of the time lately. Does this mean I'm getting old? Tell me I'm not alone.

We're getting very excited about my twin grandsons who are due to arrive in October sometime. We're praying they can stay in as long as possible and arrive safe and sound. Thank you for your well wishes!

To go along with the self-defense tip in today's newsletter, here's the book that started it all for me six years ago: Combat Origin.

In a future where lawsuits are a thing of the past, conflicts are settled the old-fashioned way—with fists! Kiriai, a scrappy teenage heroine, can throw down just as well (if not better) than the boys. This dystopian world hires fighters, not lawyers, to settle scores, and Kiriai is always ready to step into the ring. Who needs a legal team when you've got killer moves?

At 99c and in Kindle Unlimited, it's a steal. Give it and the other four books in the series a try.

And now, down below, I've got an effective tip to neutralize a dangerous encounter with a single move.

But first, check out today's offers. Each of your clicks (no purchase necessary) helps the newsletter, so please try a few:

Attack the Attack:

Self Defense Tip #30

When we think about self-defense, the instinct is often to pull away or retreat, but that’s not always the best strategy.

If you’re ever grabbed or restrained, one unexpected and effective response is to push into your attacker instead of pulling away. This tactic can catch them off guard, shifting the momentum and giving you a better chance to break free.

Why does this work? It's all about surprise and control. Attackers expect you to pull away and brace to stop you. Pushing forward can throw them off balance and create an opening for escape.

Here’s how this self-defense tactic can help you:

  • Shift Control: Push into the attacker to take them off guard, giving you a moment to act.
  • Surprise Factor: Most attackers expect resistance, not an advance. This surprises them, making them lose focus.
  • Regain Momentum: By moving into your attacker, you can destabilize their position and improve your chances of breaking free.
  • Quick Escape: The unexpected push often creates enough space for you to slip free or counter their hold.

It’s all about keeping calm, acting strategically, and using every moment to your advantage.

Bonus tip: If you want to supercharge this technique, add a fast strike to a vulnerable target like the eyes, nose, throat or groin instead of just a push.

A sudden strike and flash of pain is definitely not what an attacker is expecting immediately after they make their move.

Stay safe out there and enjoy your reading this week!
