Are you better at grammar than me? Misty's Writing Update
Apr 05, 2024 7:55 pm
Hi friends,
Spring was officially here a couple of weeks ago, but we've had snow and cold until today when beautiful sunny 70-degree weather brightened everyone's day. I hope you're enjoying nature in your neck of the woods!
So, I took a break from writing the fourth book in my latest series to edit the third, Elemental Battleground, so JS Arquin, my narrator can get started recording.
I can't believe he's going to start recording in May. Advanced review copies will be available in July just before the August 2nd release. (Email me if you're willing to leave an early review and want to be added to the ARC list.)
We're also really excited for my third son, who will be leaving in a week to Helsinki, Finland, on a church mission to serve the people there. He's been working hard to learn the very complicated language, which makes me grateful my only real language work is brushing up on English grammar and homonyms.
At least my readers over on Royal Road (free to read my books before they go to Amazon) make it much easier by marking mistakes so I can fix them.
Scroll down and see if you are better at the English language than I am. :D
But first, please take a minute to check out this week's newsletter specials!

English Mistakes I Just Made Writing my 17th book:
Ok, here's your chance to do better than an author. Many of us understand the difference between to/two/too and their/there/they're, but what about these?
Homonyms mistakes in my latest book. See if you know the right answer.
____
Homonym Test:
Pour vs. Pore
He sat down to pour/pore over the manuscript.
Discrete vs. Discreet
He asked that she be discreet/discrete with the sensitive information.
I knew this one, but just typed it wrong:
Compliment vs. Complement
The entire compliment/complement of soldiers trooped into the fort.
And this one is just embarrassing:
Arial vs Aerial
Eris evolved a new spell called Arial/Aerial Rend.
(Hint: It's not the name of the Little Mermaid - doh!)
____
Check your answers below. How did you do? Any interesting ones you've caught used incorrectly in a book you've read lately?
Hopefully, this was a fun glimpse into how I constantly learn more about the English language. Your reader feedback offers crucial support - thanks!!
Enjoy a good book this week and stay healthy!
