Where in the World?! Wednesday
📆 May 4th, 2022
📍 Milan ✈️ Barcelona 🚂 Madrid ✈️ Las Palmas, Spain
Hola -
The sprint comes to an end!! 😅 After two intense weeks that took us from Padova, IT to Milan, then Barcelona, SP, followed by a quick stint in Madrid, we have arrived in paradise: Las Palmas in the Spanish Grand Canary Islands. This is home for the next month. Let me tell you… we thought we were young and full of energy (and I hope we are). But nothing will test your energy like operating in full-fledged tourist mode for 28 days straight.
Some fun stats from the past 4 weeks before we dive in:
- 🌍 8 countries visited
- 🏙️ 15 cities traveled through
- 🧳 10 trains, 5 flights, and 1 boat taken (+11 airport lounges visited 😉)
- 👟 500,443 steps counted (~238 miles walked… each!)
🗣️ Two quick shoutouts to the community ~
- Huge shoutout to Bryan H. (find him on Instagram) who has referred 4 people to the newsletter!! We SO appreciate the support and enthusiasm for what we’re putting out... one more referral and we owe you a book! 😲📘
- There are several of you that are so close to hitting your first referral milestone and we’d love your support (and can’t wait to shout you out, too!). Check out your unique referral link at the bottom of this email and the awesome prizes that come with each milestone!
🗞️ One article that we loved ~
- If it’s not evident from our step count above, walking around a new city is our preferred method of travel. But we’ve struggled to articulate exactly why that is. After all, two efficiency-loving hard*sses like us should detest the slow pace of travel walking offers, especially given perfectly good, speedier alternatives readily available. Luckily, to explain this strange affinity for slow travel better than we can, Chris Arnade’s article titled “Why I Walk” sums it up accurately and rather poetically. Travelers of far places and explorers of the local neighborhood, alike, will enjoy this piece.
🐣 One tweet to uplevel your learning ~
- We’re back in Spain which means… that final year of trudging through AP Spanish assignments and exams is finally worth it again! Our Spanish is far from perfect, but it’s enough to order food, get directions, and crack a bad joke or two about America with new European friends (you know, the stuff that matters!). But we’re willing to bet that so many of you, like us, wish you could remember ALL of that vocab and grammar from foreign language classes past when visiting a country that speaks a language you once knew well. 💥Shamwow! This Twitter thread lays out an awesome strategy for quickly brushing up on (or learning from scratch) a new language in record speed. The first tweet below to whet your appetite:
📺 One show we’re struggling hard NOT to binge ~
- A few newsletters ago, we shared our love of intense, entrepreneurial dramas like Super Pumped and Billions with you. In the same vein, you must check out WeCrashed on Apple TV+. We highly recommend it (we clearly have a type when it comes to TV shows 🤐). You’ll see Anne Hathaway and Jared Leto at the top of their craft portraying the other-worldly personalities of Rebekah and Adam Neumann in the checkered retelling of WeWork’s founding story. Honestly, we’ve struggled to limit our viewing to one episode a night!
That’s it from us! Whatever it is that runners do after running a really long route, we’re about to do the equivalent for tourists after a lot of ‘touristing’. So, catch you next time after we... sleep for two weeks 😴 Hasta pronto!
What did you think of today's newsletter?
Your (anonymous) feedback makes us smile... and helps us get better!
- ✈️✈️✈️✈️✈️ Great - better than a free upgrade
- ✈️ ✈️✈️ Pretty good - got me from point A to B
- ✈️ Do better - that was a bumpy landing
🤔 Can't remember the name of that Gaudí building in Barcelona, but it sure does look Familia,
Akaash (& Midori)
