Hello !
I hope you're having a great week!
I also hope you're taking some time to really rest. That you're taking detox breaks from social media, praying, enjoying God's word, and loving others without trying to save the whole world.
I know that rest can actually be a difficult feat for some. If you're not accustomed to switching off the noise, and really resting, it can feel like training an undeveloped muscle.
To help you move in the right direction, I thought I'd share some helpful tips with you.
Take a walk. Taking a 15-minute walk can increase creative thinking by 40 to 60 percent! Sometimes a leisurely walk (without listening to music or talking) can be just what you need to solve a lingering problem or connect with Jesus. All the plots of my novels began with a walk, and I always feel rested when I return home from mine.
Hang out (in person) with good friends. Research shows that spending leisure time with friends lowers cortisol (the stress hormone) and can shift your nervous system from a sympathetic (fight or flight) state to a parasympathetic (rest and digest) state.
Experience nature. Being in nature can shift us into more relaxed physiological and psychological states. It increases creative thinking, and helps rest our direct attention faculties.
Get plenty of sleep at night. Don't take your phone to bed with you. Try to get 8 to 9 hours like a sleep legend, and it will pay huge dividends in many areas!
Alright, now go get some pro-level rest!
You rock.
See you Sunday!
