Echoes of a Stolen Son

A Sole Survivor. A lost son. The wasteland is unrelenting, and this is the raw, intimate account written into his Pip-Boy.

My name is Garrick. I’m not a professional author. I’m a 54-year-old father of seven, a grandfather, a husband, and a full-time worker. I am also an artist and a devoted, lifelong fan of Fallout. The Commonwealth is a place where I've found escape and peace, particularly while navigating my own struggles with Generalized Anxiety Disorder and Major Depressive Disorder. These games provide me an opportunity to be someone else and live in another world for just a while. My wife reads books... I play Fallout... we both escape when we need in our own honest ways.

I'm writing "Echoes of a Stolen Son" as my way of giving back to the game that has provided me with a refuge from the real world. It follows Nate, the Sole Survivor, on his journey to find Shaun, his son.

While the core plot will be familiar to fellow Fallout players, this book dives much deeper into Nate’s personal backstory, thoughts, and emotional connection to the wasteland and its survivors.

You may or may not like Fallout 4... but, for myself, it's the best game. I love the fact that you start off in a time BEFORE the bombs dropped. But, I've always wondered how the Sole survivor can so quickly move on from the quick succession of tragedies they endure in the first act of the game. How they just automatically know how to fire and modify all weapons and armor with no learning curve... I can hear you now, "It's a game!!" And, I agree... but it has always bothered me a littls. So, I sought to answer these questions with this fan-fiction novel, and through my side project: the Dusty Signal podcast.

However, please be aware that this is a grassroots project... it's just me... one fan creating for other fans. It's not a walkthrough, it's not 100% cannon, and I will be utilizing creative license to fully flesh out Nate as a person. It's also not a money-making venture. This book is a labor of love that is, and always will be, completely free. All I ask in return is your email address... not to take your money, but to build a community.

It's also a work in progress....

I currently have the first six chapters completed and will continue writing as time and real life allow. You will receive a direct link to the folder that houses the book document and, should I ever finish it... a PDF of the book when it's completed. (All files are hosted on a Google Drive) This link will be sent to you in the confirmation email you will receive immediately after clicking below and signing up for my email list.

I will not email you very often... maybe a few a month... and most emails will be from my original Fallout character, DJ Dusty... from the Dusty Signal podcast radio program. I'm trying to bridge the gap between the Fallout universe and our reality...

I fully invite criticism, (as long as it's not just nasty for the sake of being nasty...), and will make every effort to respond in kind as I am able to.

Thank you for your interest and for joining me in the Commonwealth.

PS... It would mean the world to me if you would check out the Dusty Signal podcast Radio Show... I know it would make Dusty happy as well!
