Instrumental music can still have a story

Hey friend,

You may be familiar with the idea of concept albums in music.

These are albums where the songs tell a cohesive story (or have some other type of album-spanning theme).

Many artists you've heard of have at least one concept album:

  • Led Zeppelin
  • Rush
  • David Bowie
  • Coheed & Cambria
  • The Eagles
  • Coldplay
  • Radiohead
  • Nine Inch Nails
  • Muse
  • ...the list goes on.

Even classical music, before there were albums, would have songs with multiple movements, that all told a story.

And those songs didn't have lyrics.

Most of my music is also instrumental, but something I usually don't share is how it tells a story.

All of my albums made in the names megabyteGhost and Prefecture.Audio have stories behind them.

And the stories exist in the same universe. One I've been building for almost a decade now.

I call it The Codex Corporation and it was originally meant for a large game idea I had.

Over the years it's become much more than that.

If you're interested, stick around and I'll shoot you an email later this week with a broad idea of the universe and the game(s) it is meant to facilitate.

P.S. I've got a sort of "best of" or "greatest hits" style album coming out on Friday called "We Are Approaching Utopia In 2024" (or Approaching Utopia 2024 for short or A15A 2024 for even shorter).

It will have a few songs from the stories as well as some other music I've made (much of which is unreleased).

It's $5 to preorder and the price goes up to $10 on Friday when it's released.

Then on the first of next year, the prices goes up to $15.

Preorder it at it's lowest price right now: https://ko-fi.com/s/6ba3f09b3a
