Has {{contact.first_name}}'s year gotten off to a slow start too?

Hey :)
I just got done catching up on some bookwork and setting goals for 2024...you know, fun stuff, lol! It beats playing outside when the weather is this disrespectful (hope you're staying warm, by the way!).
One of my goals this year is to do better about emailing and providing value to the friends who support me & my photography. My goal is to send something weekly - we'll see how far we can make it.
…but now onto what’s really important. Emailing you!
This week I want to share a few tips for choosing a photographer. It's engagement/planning season, so this should get you started on having a conversation with a photographer and making the best choice for you. Please feel free to share this with any brides you know. (This advice goes beyond weddings, but I focus on them - no pun intended).
Part 1: Finding Your Photo Soulmate
- Discovering Your Style: Define your dream photographs. Do you crave romantic, natural beauty? Or are you drawn to bold, editorial flair? Flip through wedding blogs, explore photographers' portfolios, and identify visuals that resonate with your emotions.
- Beyond the Portfolio: Look for more than just technical prowess. Can you feel the couple's connection in their photos? Does the photographer's personality exude warmth and make you feel comfortable? Seek someone who aligns with your energy and understands your vision.
- The Interview Dance: Prepare questions that delve beyond "Do you shoot in natural light?" Ask about their workflow, experience with your chosen venue, and how they handle unexpected situations. Remember, you're inviting them into your most intimate moments, so choose someone you click with. MDK Pro Tip - see my FAQ's for ideas
Part 2: Crafting Your Masterpiece
- Shot List Symphony: Collaborate with your photographer to craft a personalized shot list. Include must-have moments like the kiss, vows, and cake cutting, but also infuse personal touches like your childhood teddy bear or your grandmother's heirloom earrings. Trust your photographer's expertise while adding your unique flair.
- Timeline Taming: Work with your photographer and other vendors to build a seamless timeline. Allocate dedicated time for key moments like portraits and group shots, factoring in buffer periods for any spontaneous magic. Remember, flexibility is key! MDK Pro Tip - this is something I do a lot of the leg work on for my clients. I'm a planner.
- Location Liaison: Discuss ideal photo locations with your photographer, both within your venue and exploring nearby hidden gems. Consider lighting, backdrops, and potential logistical challenges for a smooth and stress-free photoshoot.
Part 3: The Big Day & Beyond
- Breathe and Smile: On the big day, let go and trust your photographer to work their magic. Focus on being present and soaking in every moment. Remember, their lens captures not just poses, but genuine emotions and the laughter that dances in your eyes.
- Guest Graciousness: Delegate a friendly helper to guide guests towards the photographer during designated photo times. This ensures everyone gets captured while minimizing disruptions to your precious celebration.
- The Reveal & Beyond: Anticipation is half the fun! Set a date with your photographer to view your final gallery. Prepare tissues for happy tears and relive the joy of your wedding through stunning images that will be cherished for generations. MDK Pro Tip - I can have images ready to share as early as the day after a wedding, or the same day for a portrait session. Why wait to enjoy the magic?
Bonus Round: More Pro Tips
- Embrace the Unexpected: Rain on your outdoor ceremony? Don't fret! Your photographer can capture the magic of rain-kissed umbrellas and laughter that blooms through adversity. MDK Pro Tip - 20+ years as a paramedic, I've gotten really good at expecting the unexpected and thinking on my feet.
- Invest in Quality: Your wedding photos are heirlooms, so consider splurging on a professional album or heirloom prints. These tangible memories will bring you back to your special day for years to come.
- Remember, It's Your Day: Let your unique personality shine through! Don't be afraid to steal a cheeky kiss during a formal portrait or burst into an impromptu dance. These candid moments tell your story and make your wedding photos truly yours.
I hope you like it/get something out of it/whatever.
Let me know what you think.
Happy Monday!
