Hey ,

Your headline is the first, and sometimes only, impression you make on a prospective reader. Which is why it's so important to write effective headlines.

According to Copyblogger, 8 out of 10 people will read your headline, but only 2 out of 10 will click through to read your article.

And if you're thinking, "Who cares? I just want people to read my article," it's very likely they won't even find your article in the first place. A good headline can not only increase your blog's traffic by up to 500%, it also shares the value of how you can help your audience.

That means if you have a blog with 5,000 monthly pageviews, a good headline could increase that to 25,000 pageviews.

That's a lot more people that will benefit from your article.

Now that you know how important headlines can be, let's look at some tips that will help you write even more effective headlines.

1. The average length of a successful headline is 5 - 9 words

Long headlines may seem like they'll pack a punch, but often times they lose readers before they even get to the interesting part.

The average length of a successful headline is 5 - 9 words. That's because long headlines are often cumbersome and difficult to read.

So, if you want people to actually read your headlines (and your article), it's best to keep them short and sweet.

2. The most successful headlines use numbers

When it comes to writing headlines, numbers are your best friend. In fact, headlines with numbers are proven to increase readership rates by 36%.

Why? Because numbers make headlines more specific and give readers a better idea of what they can expect from your article.

For example, "5 Tips for Filming on Your Phone" is more specific (and likely to be clicked on) than "How to Film on Your Phone."

3. Headlines with lists are helpful for your readers

Make it more accessible for your audience to read your article by writing a list headline. List headlines are specific, easy to read, and tell readers exactly what they can expect from your article.
