Use analogies where you can 🙂

Hey ,

Help your audience by using analogies and examples wherever you can.

It can be difficult for us to explain the meaning of our work. After all, sharing what our products or services do for others is a craft in itself.

When we do describe our products, we focus on their features and benefits (that's what we're taught to do).

Don't state all the technical features or educational benefits. Instead, use something anyone can understand: Analogies & Examples.

Analogies are a great communication tool. When combined with an example or story, your users will see how they can use your products (or how to enjoy them).

Try this:

Think of how you might explain Wi-Fi to someone who's never used the internet. Ask yourself these questions:

  • How can we use language that doesn't add confusion?
  • How can we connect to something they are familiar with?
  • Next, how can we apply that new language to something they want to understand?

I'm not saying to misrepresent your audience's intelligence. I'm saying that, when presented, we all prefer the more accessible option.

Use these common areas for your next analogy:

  • cooking,
  • automobiles,
  • living spaces (like a home or apartment).

What other ones can you think of?

Where can you adopt this strategy? Let me know with a quick reply.
