You are a creative.

, do you remember when you were a kid?

Over the past few months, I’ve been undergoing some branding exercises for myself + my company.

In one of those exercises, I challenged myself to think back and recall all the things that made me happy when I was younger. The goal was to see if there was "something" there that I could continue doing or even bring that "something" into what I’m already doing.

When I was young, I would venture out with friends in my neighborhood to create new games to play with ever-changing rules. I would even concoct wildly impressive and sometimes poor tasting recipes with random ingredients in our home. All the time, I was finding new ways to do something that already exists, only to improve upon it + and enjoy every moment of it.

If you really think about this for yourself, what were some things that made you happy as a kid?

Over the years, this creative energy channeled itself through storytelling in film and web design.

Though, it can be a lot harder to be so inventive.

Now, I’m finding myself going on nature walks or runs, cycling, and listening to music or soundscapes to spark this creative energy. What do you do to find that creative spirit?

For some reason, when we reach a certain age, we have a tendency to lose that wonderful imagination.

During my time as an educator for Apple, I kept seeing this in the people that I would teach. They would say "I’m not creative" and "I don’t know how to do that." Yet, each were accomplished and proud of other things in their lives.

It’s as if we’re told that we have to follow certain rules in order to become creative again, and reimagine.

I disagree.

I made it my personal goal to unlock their creativity—helping them find that youthful energy of exploration.

And, I’m here to do that for you too.

Being creative doesn’t mean you need to paint or make movies. It can be as simple as the way you cook eggs in the morning, sign your name, or even tie your shoes.

The important part, is that it’s you.

Being creative is unique to us as humans.

We seek to innovate to better our own and other people’s daily lives, whether through stories, products, or services.

In our professional lives, the way we tell that story and what we share separates us from everyone else. It’s what makes our brand stand out.

Because a brand, as Marty Neumeier states, is a result of the story you tell—it’s in your audience’s heads and in their hearts. A brand is your reputation.

There’s only one you. Go be you.

Then, share what you create.

The act of sharing, that special something, will end up activating other people’s creativity and deep thinking. People love seeing what others create, and appreciate the value and inspiration you provide for them.

You’ll soon start to attract those people to you and even your brand. Sharing your work helps to connect humanity, and we need more and more compassionate connections these days.

I’m so happy you’re here, and I cannot wait to see what you create next.

Enjoy,

Matt Cici
