Hey ,

Letting someone outgrow you, your products, or your services can be quite liberating.

You might be asking: Matt, why are you telling me to let customers shop somewhere else instead of with me?

Well, because you can't please everyone.

And, when you find yourself working with the right person, there's so much more joy the both of you can feel.

Imagine if you could find more people just like that.

Don't get me wrong β€” it can be scary too, because it means you have will have to say no…a lot.

I've included a link to a podcast episode below that'll help you say no more, and let your audience outgrow you.

If you start creating more products and services for others with each and every request: "it's not your company anymore, you don’t work for yourself anymore, you work for them, and you didn’t start a business to work for someone else." - Jason Fried | Founder Coffee

I first read about this concept, when I was rediscovering my passions, in the book Rework by David Heinemeier Hansson and Jason Fried.

At the time, I was quite overwhelmed by the idea of positioning my company to support businesses of all stages, types, and sizes … and online website platforms.

Whereas, I was most excited by the opportunity of helping those who are starting out and love learning (or those have existing business and need more efficient workflows … and also love to learn).

So, I embraced this mentality and if someone didn't fit the profile, I would just say no. Why? Because, even though I could support them, someone else out there is going to be a better fit for them and their needs.

In doing so, I was providing a true service to them by referring, rather than adapting myself with each new person.

This also gave me more control over my time and direction. I'm hoping it'll do the same for you. Let me know.

I would recommend Rework to anyone who: is starting their business, or identifies a need for a change. If you don't want to buy a copy, then reserve it at your local library.
