Stay Rooted, Stay Focused, and Stay Committed.

Dear Family,
These days, it’s hard to ignore the noise.
Over the past several months, conversations about Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion have taken on a life of their own, becoming a lightning rod for political debate. No matter where you stand on the issue, it’s clear that Black and Brown communities are often caught in the crossfire—whether we’re part of the conversation or not.
But here’s the thing: for me, this isn’t about politics. It’s about people.
I was born and raised in Irvington, New Jersey, in a community where hard work and resilience were non-negotiables. I went to a private school filled with faces that looked like mine—Black and Latino students striving for something greater. From there, Howard University molded me into the man I am today, teaching me the value of purpose, pride, and persistence.
I’m also a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha, standing on the shoulders of those who broke barriers long before I came along.
That’s my heritage. That’s my truth. While others may distance themselves from these conversations, worried about perception or politics, I want you to know where I stand: I’m proud of who I am and who we serve.
At LUX, we’ve reimagined wealth management to center the needs of brilliant, ambitious, and historically underrepresented professionals like you.
This work isn’t about “initiatives” or “programs.” It’s about community. It’s about creating opportunities, breaking down barriers, and making sure the next generation has a foundation to build on. Supporting Black and underrepresented professionals isn’t just a part of my work—it’s part of my life.
And no matter what’s happening in the world, that won’t change.
So, as the debates rage on, I’m reminded of the lessons I’ve carried with me since my days in Irvington and Howard: stay rooted, stay focused, and stay committed.
With Love & Resolve,
Matt
