Winners & Losers

Dear Family,

I was chatting with another financial advisor recently—someone who also runs their own practice—and he mentioned something that stuck with me.

He’s been getting a lot of inbound calls lately. At first glance, you might think that’s a good thing. The market bounced back last year, and for some, that meant big wins. But for others? Not so much. The calls he’s been getting are mostly from people on the losing end—folks who didn’t come out ahead and are now scrambling to figure out what went wrong.

It’s a tough pill to swallow, but one thing is clear: the difference between winners and losers often comes down to preparation, not luck.

The truth is, markets fluctuate. Opportunities come and go. But the people who win—consistently—are the ones who don’t wait for things to “just work out.” They build systems. They seek guidance. They stay ready.

If you’re reading this and feeling like you’re still figuring things out, don’t be discouraged.

We’ve all been there. The question isn’t whether you’ve had a few losses—it’s what you’re going to do about it. Winners learn, adjust, and move forward with purpose.

As we move through the early days of 2025, ask yourself: Are you prepared for the next opportunity?

Are you equipped to weather the next storm? If not, now is the time to build the systems and strategies that will put you on solid footing, no matter what the market—or life—throws your way. Because here’s the thing: the scoreboard doesn’t lie.

By this time next year, you’ll either be ahead or wondering why you’re not. The difference is what you choose to do right now.

From LUX, With Love,

Matt
