Sharpening The Axe

Dear Family,
My heart is full after spending last week in Phoenix, AZ, for the 2024 LUX Wealth Planning Team Summit.
I've been an entrepreneur for over ten years, and early on, I dreamed of hosting a team summit. Although initial funds were tight, I never stopped envisioning the possibility. It's hard to believe, but this year marked our third annual summit, a testament to the power of perseverance and vision.
In today's digital world, I believe personal connections are invaluable.
That's why, despite the convenience of remote interactions, it's crucial for me to meet my team face-to-face. This personal connection helps ensure that we're all truly aligned and thriving, not just coping behind screens.
The Summit, which spanned from Wednesday afternoon to Friday at noon, wasn't just a gathering—it was a dedicated time for us to enhance our service to you.
During the day, we discussed business, and in the evening, we broke bread and deepened our bonds with one another. We've added a lot of new members to the team, and I wanted to make sure they got to spend time with one another.
Reflecting on my roots in Irvington, NJ, and my education at Howard University, leading a company that employs and serves underrepresented communities is particularly meaningful.
At Howard, I remember reading the Miseducation of The Negro by Carter G. Woodson and his comments about the inability of black-owned businesses to employ members of their own community.
At LUX, we don't have that problem.
My wife Christian and I make constant sacrifices to ensure we're able to keep our team gainfully employed and recruit advisors who reflect the 95% of our black clientele, which is not something you find in the wealth planning industry.
I speak with members daily who navigate the exhausting battle of proving their worth, fighting against biases that undervalue their credentials simply because of their skin color.
It’s a daily struggle for recognition and respect. As a result, It's important for me to have team members who provide a safe space where you feel seen and heard. This year, we renewed our pledge to foster transparency and enhance educational efforts.
The wealth planning industry often battles misconceptions, akining us to multi-level marketing schemes and used car salesmen, which can dissuade newcomers.
Our mission is to dispel these myths and make financial planning accessible, especially to black and underrepresented professionals, with our sweet spot being doctors, lawyers, and business owners.
Looking ahead, we're excited to roll out free financial planning workshops and resources like our personal cash flow planning tool and The Bridge Builder document. These tools are designed to help you live with intention and cultivate an abundance mindset—a principle we reinforced heavily at the summit. Below is a sneak peek of The Bridger Builder:
"I worked for a menial's hire, Only to learn, dismayed, That any wage I had asked of Life, Life would have willingly paid.”
As we grow, I am profoundly grateful for our team and for you, our members.
I look forward to gathering together at future member-exclusive summits to build and celebrate our collective journey. In the meantime, we are also looking to expand our team and are always on the lookout for passionate individuals. If you know someone who would be a great fit for LUX, please reach out to me directly.
