Music, writing, and NaNoWriMo

Hey awesome,

Here we are, in November, like time is just a normal thing and not flying by all willy nilly. How's November in your neck of the woods? Is it finally cooling off, or already snowing, or some beautiful in-between?

We're finishing up our coastal travels and about to head south and west for the winter. I have had an amaaazing time exploring all the various beaches and collecting treasures, but I think Jeremy is ready to be done with sand for a bit (and probably done with me collecting treasures, but let's be honest, I'm only going to shift back to rocks). Still: the pretty! The above was from our last stop in Top Sail, NC, but every beach we've been to has been that glorious.

In writing news - whew, there's news! You saw this, right???:

What do you think??? I'm so excited for Ally to be out in the world (December 17) - I can't wait to hear your thoughts (after December 17th!). Kacey and I had a great time working on this one - I mean, how could I not, writing with her?? - and I hope we did the Hunters proud with this conclusion to their arc (coming at you on the 17th of December, did I mention?).

In the meantime, I'm writing three different first-person point of view characters across two books. I recently asked my Facebook friends for song recommendations so I can build playlists to keep the voices distinct, and I think I've mostly got them.

  • Helen (Salt in the Wound, in the Fallen World Universe): punk goodness, leading off with Bad Religion's "I want to Conquer the World"
  • Cynthia (Spider, Hit World universe): a bit of glam rock, a bit of pop, and the Scissor Sisters song "I Can't Decide," is kind of her lead song (not that she'd ever, ever let anyone know what she listens to)
  • Alida (Spider, Hit World universe): the HU Band - playlist starts with "Song of Women," which is the HU with Lzzy Hale.

There's a ton of other songs mixed into each - a lot of P!nk, ACDC, Missy Elliott, Judas Priest, Iggy Pop, GAYLE, M.I.A, Genesis...it's a hugely mixed set of playlists, is what I'm saying. Thank goodness for my FB friends for reminding me of and introducing me to so many great songs and artists. Let me know if you want to hear more as the writing continues - this is the first time I've tried something like this, so we'll see how it goes!

To kickstart my words on both of these projects, I joined NaNoWriMo (national novel writing month!) for November - it will definitely be an adventure. Are you participating in the writing shenanigans? If so, shoot me a buddy request - https://nanowrimo.org/participants/skerrydream

Back to writing with me (for the foreseeable future) - let me know what you're up to this month!

Til next time,

Marisa
