ocean, books, oceans of books 🌊🌊

Hey awesome,

How goes October? I haven't been home enough to decorate for Halloween - a bit of a bummer given how much I usually love it. Still, fall in New England is pretty enough to distract me.

I haven't taken nearly enough pictures of pretty leaves, however I did go to the seaside for a writing retreat, and I took many, many, many pictures of the ocean in her various moods.

It was a very cozy and productive time - I got to chat with the fabulous Kacey Ezell and Trisha Wooldridge, I wrote a ton, and I even turned a whole project in! It helped that I left the lovely house only to walk on the beach and for one absolutely fabulous celebratory dinner at the end (dessert and mocktails pictured accordingly).

I love cozy fall. I burrow under blankets and write and read and want to do very little else. Thankfully there is plenty of both to do, whew. Last night, we had a fun (and very shenanigan-heavy) Feral Ladies Live, in which we talked cozy reads, opposite-of-cozy-reads, our love for pink, and most importantly, our love of good stories.

What cozy reads top your list? I added three to my TBR from last night's conversation and have one already queued up and ready to go. If you're looking for more awesomeness to read (cozy and otherwise!), I have a plethora of suggestions from some of my awesome and talented friends!

If you like audiobooks...both Magelight from Kacey Ezell and Rise from Ruin from Melissa Olthoff are out now! You've heard me rave about both of these books before, and now they both have awesome performers bringing the books to life for your earholes!

If you like a little smutty, sassy tension with your urban fantasy...Jeff Burns of Super Geeked Up fame had a brand new release this month with The Adventures of Elena and Ned Gargoyle P.I. Jeff is hilarious, these characters are a delight, and the world around them is rife for amazing cases to solve. (This is under one of his pen names, Riley Rose, but you get that same humor and sense of fun!)

If you prefer no romance but a lot of awesome characters with your urban fantasy...Mel Todd has a deal going with the first three books of her Twisted Luck series - all three for .99!! I was mad I only bought book 1 to start, as I absolutely did not want to leave the world and characters Mel created. Don't make my mistakes, treat yourself to the whole first trilogy!

If you're going for progression fantasy that might keep you up all night...Shami Stovall has just released book 2 of her Words of Power epic series Empire of the Twin Suns this week! This is the series that made me realize how much I love progression fantasy, and whewww book 2 is so, so good.

If you haven't picked up a book with cursed treasure, tiny dragons, and a whole lotta trouble...Secretly I had to include A Plague of Magic because the collage wasn't working without one more cover (aaaand also I love it, so). Magic's outlawed, but it only kind of ended the world that one time almost 400 years ago. Surely it's not so bad now...? (please imagine an evil laugh here)

And now I'm going head down into a couple of projects to finish up the year. That includes one novel and three short stories, a mix of secrety-secrets (ooooh) and things you know are coming (one rhymes with Shmonorverse). I'm so excited about all of them I'm totally not even noticing how early it gets dark...totally. Totally unaware of the fact that soon it will be dark at 4:30...

Ahem. It's fine. We'll be cozy about it, right?

Til next time,
