almost spring

Hey awesome,
How goes spring? We had a snowstorm last weekend...hopefully the last one of the season, but I'm not going to bet on it.
Regardless of the weather, I'm in the midst of a genuinely epic re-read: David Weber's Norfressa series. I forgot how much I love an excellent paladin story, and am having a wonderful time. What's the last thing you read (or re-read) that should be on my list? The TBR can continue to grow, after all...
I've got a busy few weeks ahead. All great stuff (cons and deadlines and graduations and travel and visitors), but definitely means I'll have to be really disciplined with my writing and reading schedules. Which isn't to say I wouldn't be excited about a few more books...
Next week I'm off to Jordan Con for the first time, and I'm so excited for what is sure to be an outstanding experience. Melissa Olthoff and I will be sharing a table with all our books, and plus I have this fab panel schedule:
Let me know if you're in the Atlanta area and if we'll see you there. Shenanigans await!
In the last few weeks I've passed in a novel (edits for A Plague of Magic) and two short stories (for the Honorverse anthology Challenges, and a really fun secret project-y one I'll hopefully get to tell you about soon). Next release coming up is a fabulous anthology (July 2025 from Baen), edited by the terrific Jason Cordova, called Dancing With Destruction. It has my first collaboration with David Weber, and is chock full of delightfully varied stories about what in the world is going on in that (gorgeous) cover.
And the graphic above has, in order, the three releases I have coming out the rest of this year. I'll be doing a heckuva lot of writing these next months, and hopefully have an equally exciting year for y'all next year.
If you're looking for something to read right now, Kacey Ezell had this awesomeness release this week: Shadow Card Guardian. I read it early and let me tell you, it's soooo freaking good. Available now in ebook/print and audio (with a phenomenal narrator).
Dania Ellis has faced warzones and Emergency Room chaos—but nothing prepared her for Drop Night.
Once every ten years, the gods give a deck of cards to a chosen few. These new “deckbearers” are capable of great magical feats, and are the top of every food chain, both metaphorically and literally.
As a combat veteran and ER nurse, Dania knows what it takes to fight for a better life. She’s worked tirelessly to build a future for herself and her orphaned nephew, Jake. But everything changes on Jake’s fourteenth birthday when he receives a Drop Night deck—straight from Nyx, the goddess of night.
The deck grants Jake power, but it also paints a target on his back. Suddenly, he’s a deckbearer hunted by forces that would do anything to possess his special deck of cards. But those hunting him and others like him failed to consider one important thing: Jake may be orphaned, but he’s not alone…
Because Dania will do anything to protect her kid. Survival isn’t just an option—it’s a promise.
Back to reading with me. Let me know what you're looking forward to!
Til next time,
Marisa
