🌎 Habits that stick, empty cities, and Al Pacino

Hey friend,

(This is a newsletter I've started only for my subscribers, I share my highlights of the week: what I've written, read, and enjoyed.)

At the end of May I took a break from social media. If you follow me, you may have seen daily timelapse posts of me writing. This is a practice called Morning Pages. It's has changed my life for the better. I published a post yesterday that I'm excited and nervous to share about journaling. If you read one article in this email, I hope it's that one, I cannot recommend it enough.

What I'm Writing

What I Learned from Journaling Every Day for a Year - an in depth story about how morning pages changed my life and how to start a practice of your own.

Crashing rent may bring back artists to cities - Rents are falling worldwide and it may bring back the record-keepers of culture: artists.

What I'm Reading

Dune by Frank Herbert — I know, I know, I haven't read the classic science fiction epic yet. I intentionally carve out time for "quake books." I'm only at the beginning and I can already see the vast world Herbert constructed, it gives Geroge R.R. Martin a run for his money.

USS University by Scott Galloway — if you're not familiar with the professor, he may turn you off at first. He's brash, arrogant, but he's also right most of the time. Galloway has an original voice in an era where journalism is blending together into one woke pod of nodding lemmings. If you're interested in the future of education, I encourage you to read his article.

What I'm Enjoying

The Anamorphic Lens from Moment. I am in the tail end of post-production for my short film, more on that in another post, but in the meantime I am in pre-production for a few other projects right now. The Anamorphic lens from Moment is really cool because it connects straight to your iPhone. It makes any scene look like something out of HEAT.

This brings me to my last recommendation. The Nerdwriter's breakdown of Michael Mann's classic HEAT is incredible. Heat: The Perfect Blend of Realism and Style.

I hope you have a great week. Let me know what you think.

Talk soon,

Robert Maisano
